Question about GE 25952EE1 Cordless Phone
I tried replacing the batteries when my old GE phones did this same thing, didn't work and the cost of the batteries was as much as buying new phones. I guess new phones, different brand is in order

Try putting new batteries in the handset. Many phones will dim their displays when the batteries start to run low in order to save power.
Hope that helps!
