I cant get the airconditioner to keep my little business of 800 sq ft cool. Yesterday it was 86 in our rooms.

You need to check that tour filters are new. Then check that air is coming from the vents and is at least 15 degrees cooler than room temp. If no air coil is frozen, or blower motor and run cap are not working. If frozen than turn system to off and fan switch is on until you feel air through vents.

You'll need to make sure the outside unit is runing and the larger copper line is cold like a can soda. If it's cold but is freezing up, it needs to have a charge added. If its running but not cold and the fan is not running or the compressor isn't running it could have a blown capacitor. If its not running at all check. the circuit breakers and reset them. And a good idea to keep the outside unit washed with water,and that it is clear of weeds and stuff.

So, you have a 10000 btu unit which is 5/6th of 12000 btu - so - can reasonably expect that unit to cool approximately 500 sq feet.

In other words the room it's in now could be only - say - 300 sq feet (and well insulated) - in which case the AC unit is cooling it - well.

However, if you try to cool a 800 sq ft room - it will not work as well.

Assuming the unit is 'cooling' but not cooling it 'well,' I would think the unit is too small.

NOTE: 2000 Btu for every 100 sq ft of cooling space if the room is well insulated. If not - then 2000 btu for every 66 sq ft.

For example - a 12000 btu AC unit should cool 600 sq feet of cooling space if well insulated.

or

400 sq feet if not well insulated.

There are a few variables that determine the size needed to cool your home - the size of your home, type insulation, are just two. I have a 2600 sq ft home - about 1300 sq ft per floor. I choose to cool the entire second floor (bedrooms and baths) and two of the largest rooms on the first floor (kitchen & living room) via flexible ducts from an air handler installed in my attic. My house was built in 1960, and at the time had electric heat. This means it is fully insulated. I replaced all the windows with energy efficient types, and vinyl sided. I installed soffit, ridge and gable vents to keep my attic well ventilated. I can cool my house in Boston, MA to 70 degrees (when it is 85 degrees inside) with a 4 ton unit in a little over an hour with no problem (one ton of cooling is equal to about 12,000 BTUs). Your condenser should not run non-stop. If it is not cooling then it is not a thermostat problem, but could be a gas charge problem. If you haven't paid the contractor in full yet - that may be the reason why. The contractor should know how much cooling you need for the space you have and installed a properly sized unit. Make sure your air filters on the return are clean and replaced regularly. Call the contractor and explain the problem - he should be able to solve it for you very quickly.

1.__Convert 15 ft into yards.__ 1 yard = 3 feet

=>**15 ft = 5 yd**

2.__Find the area of the given room.__ The cost for given room is given, and cost for carpeting 1 sq. yd is given. So,

800/20 = 40 {i.e.**40 sq. yd (area of the given room**)}

3. Now,__Length * Width = Area__

=>** x * 5 = 40 ** [Taking Length = x yd]

=> x = 40/5

=>**x = 8 yd**

=> x = 8 * 3 ft

=>** x = 24 ft**

**So, Length of the given room is 24 ft (8yd).**

An 11'500 btu Is appr. 1 ton of cooling capacity or enough to cool approximatly 450 sq ft of floor area. Be sure to read the instructions of course and be sure that all the packaging material was removed that may be restricting airflow. On high you should be able to easily feel the air blowing 10-15 ft from the unit and the air should be dropping about 15- 20 degrees when it exits the unit. So if the room temperature is 85 degrees the air exiting the unit should be around 65 -70. The amount of time it takes to cool the entire room depends on how big the room is and how much and the intensity of the heat infiltrating the room and the number and heat output of appliances and people in the room.
