Problem originated after deleting stores photos so wondered if I changed a setting somewhere. Tried factory reset but no change. Screen constantly flickers as though trying to find focus. Nothing to be seen through viewfinder. Tried removing batteries and re-starting camera.

Whenever I try to take a picture or turn on the camera, the screen goes all black. My dad dropped the camera and it some how broke something inside the camera lense. He said if I could fix it I could have it. Help me I want a new camera.

LCD Screen is basically black with flickers of light.  If I shake it or cycle on or or off the camera will operate for a frame or two and then go back to black.

I had/have the same problem. All I do is flip the camera vertical and it works. The screen displays appropriately, I think its some type of lens inside the camera that has came lose and it lines up properly when held vertical. It's a **** one solution, but it worked on mine and you can still take pictures. I would like to be fixed completely but I don't know how to. HELP!

LCD screen is black-cannot take photos

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see the following for further info and a simple fix that may help: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2009/05/simple-fix-for-stuck-shutter.html

I had my camera for a couple of years and the lcd screen went black, i can't take new pictures anymore.

If the screen goes black, you can still take pictures. There is no way to fix the black screen, it just blew out.

Black LCD screen/ not 'seeing' picture. Canon EOS 400D camera

Hi

The Digital Rebel XTi doesn't have 'live view' mode, you can't see what you're taking a picture of before you take the picture.

Turn on camera but the lcd sceen is black

Have you checked the display mode you're in? If you have the display set to off (to save power) and also the picture review time set to off, then you'll just see a black screen. Try pressing the 'Disp.' button below the screen when the camera is on - it should cycle through different settings with each press: Off, On, On with picture info. Similarly, in the playback mode this will show you more or less info about the picture you are viewing.

Even if the display is switched off, if you have your 'review' option in the menu set to anything other than Off (i.e. 2 seconds), then you should see the picture you've taken appear on the screen straight after taking it.

If it's not that, then I don't know the answer....
