Mmmm... then it should not be blocking it. Is this the only firewall that you have installed and are any other progs being blocked?

Change Firewall Settings
A firewall is a security utility designed to thwart electronic access to a network.
Firewalls are absolutely necessary because, without one, your computer is prone to being exposed to Trojans, mal-ware, spy-ware and other kinds of viral infections.
However, in some situations it is helpful to alter the firewall settings to allow certain programs to run without being blocked.
This is important to anyone whom wants to know how to access Windows Firewall and customize its settings.

Go to the start menu and select "Control Panel."
Click on the Windows Firewall icon.
It looks like a brick wall.
Choose either "On," "Block all incoming connections" or "Off" under the "General" tab.
It is recommended to have it on and not advised to turn it off.
Click the "Exceptions" tab to choose which programs you do not want to be protected by the firewall.
Click the empty box to check the programs you want to add to the list of exceptions.
It is recommended to check browsers and file-sharing programs.
Click the "Advanced" tab to choose which network connections you want the firewall to protect.
It is recommended to check all connections because your computer could be exposed to viruses if left unchecked.
Click "Restore Defaults" under the advanced tab.
This may cause some programs to stop working and is not recommended if you do not have experience working with firewall settings.
Create the menu tab on your homepage right click in the top toolbar you should see a number of toolbar options select the menu tab which will add File Edit View Favorites Tools and Help
Select "Tools>Internet options" Inside Internet Explorer, then click the "Security" tab. Press the "Custom level" button.

Windows XP Firewall: How to set an exception

Windows XP comes with its own firewall software, called Windows Firewall. While it's not as customizable as some other firewall programs on the market, there are quite a few things you can adjust in order to balance security with functionality. If you need to allow traffic into your network or onto your computer, you can set up an exception in the Windows Firewall to let a specific program have access, or to let communication occur on a specific port.<br /> <br /> To set up a firewall exception in Windows XP, follow the steps below.<br /> <br /> 1. Open the Control Panel (usually found on the Start menu).<br /> <br /> 2. Double click on the Windows Firewall icon.<br /> <br /> 3. When the Windows Firewall window appears, make sure the firewall is on and the box marked "<i>Don't allow exceptions</i>" is unchecked.<br /> <br /> 4. Go to the Exceptions tab.<br /> <br /> 5. If the software you want to set an exception for appears on the list of programs and services, then all you have to do is put a check next to it and click OK. Otherwise, if you want to create an exception for a program, click Add Program, and for a port, click Add Port.<br /> <br /> 6. For a program, you can either select the program you want from the list that appears, or you can click Browse to find the program on your computer. For a port, enter the name you want to call the exception (which can be just the port number if you want) and then below that type in the TCP or UDP port number. (If it is a UDP port, select UDP below the port number.)<br /> <br /> 7. Click OK to create the exception.<br /> <br /> 8. Click OK again to save the change.

Create Exceptions in Windows Vista Firewall

Windows Vista Firewall acts like a fence between your computer and the outer world, but since any fence needs a gate, you have to let some data get in and out by setting exceptions. While some exceptions are set up automatically by Windows Vista, others have to be configured manually Setting a manual exception for a certain program.
  1. Click Start and enter the Control Panel
  2. Here, access the link called "Allow a program through Windows Firewall" (bellow the Security). exceptions1.png
  3. Go to the General Tab, and make sure that the option "On (recommended)" is selected. If not, enable it (this will enable the firewall). exceptions2.png
  4. Go to the Exceptions tab at the top.
  5. To add a program you to your exception list click Add Program (near the bottom). exceptions3.png
  6. A list with the programs on your computer is displayed. Locate the program, highlight it and click OK. exceptions4.png
  7. Be sure that the check box besides your program is checked, then click OK exceptions5.png
Other tips
The most powerful addition to the Vista Firewall is the excellent Rules system. This allows you to enable traffic only in certain conditions, just like opening a gate only for people dressed in white, but they will only be allowed to enter.
  • to specific computers and users
  • to many different protocols (not just TCP and UDP)
  • to both local and remote ports
  • to specific interface types: location area network, remote access, or wireless
  • to specific Vista services
Despite the vulnerability claims, a well configured Vista Firewall is much more capable than all its predecessors, and despite the fact that nothing is perfect, everything starts from you, the user behind the screen.

I want to block yahoo messenger on my computer, how can i do it?

Just block it from the Firewall settings: go to Control Panel > Windows Firewall > Exceptions and untick the mark next to it.
But the best solution is to uninstall it , from Control Panel > Programs.

I can't enter free relms because i have to change my firewall settings. how do i change it so i can play it?

This will depend on what firewall software you are using. If you are using Windows Firewall, then you must go to the control panel and open the firewall settings, then add an exception. To do this, you must click the center tab, marked "Exceptions"and check the box next to the name of the program you wish to use. If you do not see your program in the list, then you can add it by clicking the "Add Program" button located below the list. This will bring up a second window with a list of installed software. If you sti9ll do not see the program listed there, then you can click "browse" and find it manually. Once you have entered the program to the exceptions list, the Windows Firewall will no longer block it's access to the internet. This process will be similar if you are using some other firewall software. Have fun gaming!

How do i unblock the firewall on my computer? im trying to sign into my windows live mesenger. but it says that i have a firewall... so how do i unblock it?

The firewall will not block the messenger unless it is out from the exceptions list or you have an anti-virus with a separate firewall..and this is blocking it ..
for to see whats on the windows firewall...go to the control panel from the start menu ..and in there you will find the firewall icon ...Double click on it ..and either disable it (not indicated cause you will be exposed to the workgroup computers..) or ...click on the exceptions...and in the list look for the windows live messenger and tick the case for to be added as an exception..After that will be ok ..
If it is not on the list ..click to add exception ..and browse for the execution of the messenger into the C /program files/windows live ..and add it to exceptions ..and also be sure it is ticked..

I'm trying to download a patch for world of War craft onto my computer and it's telling me a firewall is in the way? It's stuck at 7%.

Adding a program exception

* When you add a program to the exception list, you enable the firewall to open ranges of ports that could change every time the program is run. To add a program exception, follow these steps:
* Use an administrator account to log on.
* Click Start, click Run, type wscui.cpl, and then click OK.
* In Windows Security Center, click Windows Firewall.
* On the Exceptions tab, click Add Program.
* In the list of programs, click the name of the program that you want to add, and then click OK. If the name of your program is not in the list of programs, click Browse to locate the program, and then click OK. Note If you do not know where the program is located, contact the program vendor to determine the program location.

For information about your hardware manufacturer, visit the following Web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/vendors/en-us (http://support.microsoft.com/gp/vendors/en-us)
* Click OK.
* Test the program to verify that the firewall settings are correct.

IPAC PDA rz1710 and Vista

If you are running ActiveSync 4.0 or later and personal firewall software on your personal computer, please add ActiveSync to the firewall program’s exception list. (Firewall software, such as Sygate Personal Firewall, TrendMicro PC-cillin Internet Security 2005, Norton Personal Firewall, McAfee Personal Firewall, or Zone Alarm Security Suite may block synchronization.) Refer to the documentation that came with your firewall program to determine how to add ActiveSync 4.0 or later to the program’s exception list. To further troubleshoot a firewall application and enable ActiveSync 4.0 or later
