My lp1200dxr has a bad motor bearing.

My lp1200dxr sounds like a bearing is going out in the evaporator blower motor. How can I get the motor out?

You need to split the unit at the 2 coils, its labor intensive, make sure this is the noise before ordering a new one because these fan motors are relatively expensive on these units

Hi,

To remove the motor from your lp1200dxr you have to cut the housing to remove the blower motor.

Your local parts house should have some tar like sealer that you can use reseal it when you are done.

Thanks for contacting Fixya.

After working on it yesterday I was thinking about cutting it out but though that was a little drastic. With your advice I am willing to cut it out. Where do you suggest I make the cut to free the motor? Thank you for your advice.

If the blower motor is going out, then you might be able to replace it.
Unplug from electricity, remove screws to the panel, and investigate.
Probably, a blower motor can be replaced pretty easily by taking it apart and putting it back together.

I do not have any more information for you on this one because I have never taken this particular model apart, but have fixed conventional a/c units that had bad blower motors.

Wish you luck on this one.

actually, I think that your portable a/c would be easier to fix than a conventional window a/c unit because it is so large in comparison. Which means inside it doesn't have as close clearances between parts.

    Hope this helps you out.

If it is fused together then that's a problem.

Look for any fasteners that can be undone.

Otherwise, may have to have it serviced

    by the service center.

The heater/AC makes an obnoxiously loud noise coming from the passenger side around the glove box when turned on. Has been developing for about a week.

Sounds like your blower motor bearing is going bad. Pull glovebox and you can access blower motor. Pull blower motor and check that fan/cage is tight and not clogged with leaves etc... Had an instance when mine made a bunch of noise found parking stub had been sucked into fan,

The 'whirring' sound from the blower motor could be a dry bearing or damaged armature (part of blower motor that the brushes ride on), or just wore brushes. The smell could be the motor winding wires burning due to blower motor bogging down and overheating. You can replace blower motor with new or salvaged one.

Blower noisy on low speed, goes on and off intermittently.

Blower motor sounds like it is going bad and the bearings are giving you the noise. Motor going bad is the intermittent problems...bearings getting hot and motor is "reacting" to this.

Heater blower

Sounds like the blower motor resistor is bad. These things go bad all the time. and for the switching modes there is a vacuum line that runs under the window in the engine compartment and runs by the alternator, its tiny and may take a few minutes to find. check first by the evaporator case and follow it by the alternator to the driverside of the throttle body. these too break and will not allow the heater mode changes. the blower motor resistor controls the fan speeds and the vacuum line allows which vent the air flow goes through.

If it is indeed a true vibration, it could be a number of things. I have seen bad bearings do this off and on as the cooler runs. Could be something going wrong with the blower motor. There are several things that need to be checked to properly evaluate the problem you are describing.
