Question about Gateway FPD1975W 19" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

I have a gateway FPD1975 monitor it goes black during the start up I need to know if there is some type of relay / switch in the screen part. I hear a click when it drops out.Is there a feedback path from the screen that shuts down the high voltage if there is a problem in the screen. Plus sometimes I hear a frying sound in the screen part. I'd like to know whats there before I take it a part. Thanks

From your description you have a power supply problem, usually caused by defective capacitors, sometimes they will bulge at the top indicating an open condition. If you decide to repair check the inverter board that powers the back lights behind the screen, because they are also prone to bad caps.

I have a gateway FPD2485W tft lcd monitor and i start my monitor and after it shows gateway it then goes black. How can this be fixed

bonannorl, Maybe it can be fixed. You did not give any history of unit. Only "now" stuff. Is unit covered by Gateway warranty? How old is unit? Date of manufacture? Did unit work fine connected to your pc and this black or black n blank screen thing suddenly happen? Is screen also BLANK? Have you swapped-in old monitor to prove PC is OK? Your CCFL back-lit lcd monitor no different than any other brand in it's basic design and operation. Get into my fixya profile and read some of my testimonials and solutions to black or black n blank screen problems to help in your decision to DIY fix or contract out needed repair work. Most likely 2485w has problem with it's internal "switch-mode-power-supply"/"ccfl inverter supply"!! Let me know more info about unit.

Hello,

The "hissing" sound is a sure sign of a power supply failure. The heat buildup in the case causes parts called capacitors to blow and short out the power supply and making the sound you hear as it shorts out. Go to our web site at:
www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm we have pictures of what blown capacitors look like. Now open up your monitor and ook at the power supply. Replace all of the caps that look like the pictures and you should have a working monitor again. The replacement caps will need to be high temp which is marked 105c. The values that you need to get will be marked on the sides of the bad caps you take out such as 220uf, 470uf or 1000uf plus a voltage rating. The caps can be ordered from several places on the internet or we can supply them for you. Do not use caps from Radio Shack they are not rated for this type of use and will blow out in a few weeks of use. When you replace the bad ones be sure to insert them with the polarity stripe on the side going the same direction as the old ones come out. If you have any questions just ask. If you don't want to do the repair yourself we do offer a repair service for $30 + return shipping.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Lock out of my computer through eztune-

Call Gateway @1-800-gateway. They will tell you to unplug the monitor, plug it back in while holding the power button. A screen will apear giving you a code number. The gateway rep. asks for the code number and then gives you a code number to unlock your screen.

Black Line Across Screen

It's almost certainly a bad connection inside where the mylar strips attach to the LCD. If this is under warranty, you should contact Gateway. If it's out of warranty, it's not economical to repair this problem. It would require a whole new LCD panel, and - believe it or not - that part's cost usually exceeds the price of the monitor!

A thin horizontal line across the screen

I know I have seen thin lines in the past on older CRT monitors, these are usually wires which support the aperture grill. LCD is just a panel so this must be something different. What color is the line? It is probably an error in the scanning process.
