SOURCE: Gas Furnace Will not light

Hi, normally when you turn the gas off at the flex line valve and leave it off for awhile, the gas has to clear the gas valve and lines up to the pilot. Purge its self of air before it will light again. It will take the electronic ignition several clicks and more before there is enough gas to light the pilot and then open the main gas valve to fire the burners. Tell me, what kind of gas furnace is this when you speak of water? you say the site glass was full and you had to drain it and then the ignitor kept on clicking when it normally only took one click to light it. Please let me know the style as in a split system, a package unit, all in one, or what you have. I will wait to hear back from you. If the pilot does not light right away, then yes let it continue to click and see if it will light. On a heater with the electronic ignition control module on it or a circuit board, this is what tells the pilot coil to energize to light the pilot. It will send power to the pilot coil to open and let gas through to light and same for the main gas valve, will get a signal to open when the pilot is on. It will not open unless the pilot is lite for saftey. I will wait for you're responce.

Car is turning over but wont start seems like gas problem

Listen for the 2 second hum or buzz from the gas tank, when you turn the key to on, not start. The pump should run for about 2 seconds to put pressure in the lines and up to the fuel rail. If you don't hear it, first check the fuel pump fuse, usually in the under hood fuse/relay center. Or you could check for fuel pressure at the testing port-shrader valve- on the fuel rail. If you punch the center valve down with a small screwdriver, gas should try to spurt out. If no pressure, the pump is bad or the wiring to it needs to be investigated. Power flows from the battery to the fuse to the fuel pump relay and then to the gas tank. The relay is turned on by the pcm and allows the relay to pass power on to the pump.

Many parts stores rent or loan fuel pressure gauges to check your fuel pressure. The correct pressure is critical for the injectors to work right. If the car won't start, check fuel pressure and check for spark. Usually gas or spark is the problem.

I have a Brivis Buffalo 85, pilot light is on main burners will not ignite when turned on? It seems like gas isnt allowed to bar which turns on main burners

Usually a thermocouple or similar device is employed to allow fuel to flow once the unit sees that there is sufficient heat to ignite the fuel. Otherwise it can be a fuel valve that "sees" an unusual flow of gas which sets off the safety.

I have a Troy Built GVC 160 (2600 psi) pressure washer. I used yesterday afternoon without problem. Today, I can get it started, but it conks out immediately as soon as I engage the wand. I'd...

Make sure that the engine is set to full power. Lower the pressure to the unit with the pressure adjust knob as much as possible. Check the nozzle to make sure that no debris has entered and is lodged at the tip of the wand. Start the engine with the spray gun handle in the open /on position allowing water to flow thru. Allow the engine to run for a while to warm-up. Increase the pressure a small amount at a time to reach the desired pressure. To increase the life of the unit, do not use the machine at max. pressure setting. Adjust to about 75% of rated capacity and increase only for stubborn debris then reduce. Good luck

How can I adjust the flame on the simmer burner to be lower? It seems to be too much flame for a simmer. Otherwise cook top is working great.

Hi,
Where the gas comes into the stove, there is a regulator. Have a service person check the incomeing gas pressure after the regulator with a manometer. Sounds like you are getting too much gas pressure to the range.

Press washer starts an runs for 5 min then shuts down/ restarts in a few min then shuts down again

It sounds like could be one of the problems listed below or a combination of those things.

1) The exhaust is partially blocked. Check the screen covering exhaust port for carbon and dirt build-up. The high-speed exhaust air must pass freely.

2) Gas is not flowing freely to carburetor > under gas tank, find the rubber hose connected to carburetor. Pull off rubber hose and make sure gas flows freely. You can use this hose to drain gas tank of old gas, and then put in new gas.

3) Carburetor is partially gummed up and engine cuts off when gas flow slows down. Check small engine repair shop or auto parts store for gum out, and don't store engine with gasoline in the tank. Or put additive in gas when storing machine.

4) The choke is letting in too much gas or not enough gas. Try different adjustments. The choke-lever on our power washer got so bad that we could not set throttle at full open or the machine would die. We still use the machine at 2/3 throttle.

5) Dirty air filter that won't let engine breath enough air to keep up with combustion. Take off air filter and see if problem persists.

6) The spark coil is going bad?? Change spark plug to see if problem persists. Is spark plug wire pushed all the way on the spark plug?

Hi We have just arrived back in Wellington from overseas. Our house has a gas central heating system - the unit is Brivis Buffalo 20. What we would like to know is how cost effective the Brivis Buffalo 20...

Hi, if you are planning to change this system out, please stay with a gas fired central system as compared to a heat pump, they are much more cost effective. Heat-pumps have so many problems as there are more parts on them to go wrong. The compressor and condenser fan motor run year around as with a heat-pump they use what is called a reversing valve that changes the flow of freon making the indoor coil the outdoor coil and the same with the outdoor coil becomes the indoor coil in the winter season. I can recommend excellent gas fired units compared to the Brivis unit you have that is much more cost effective, such as the Bryant, Carrier, Goodman. I would go with a Bryant and talk to a dealer. Stay away from a heat-pump no matter what they tell you as I have worked on them for many years and if you have gas available, stay with gas. You will heat your home much faster and save on electricity as this heat -pump units need heat strips for back up heat as they can't keep up the temperature with out them. I hope I have been of help to you on this, and you will be kind when rating me as I know you will. Please contact a Bryant dealer as you will not regret it.
Sincerely,

Need flow rate and pressure adjustment proceedure for an old raypack 266 not electronic.thanks murray

The maximum flow rate for that heater to be installed in without a bypass is 125 GPM. The owner's manual can guide you thru gas pressure adjustments or adjusting the set point of the water pressure switch. Please note that unless you are installing the unit below or significantly above the water line you should not have to adjust the pressure switch. Whenever you do adjust it, be certain to turn the pump on and off several times to be certain the heater reacts to the pump condition...failure to shut down when the pump does can be a serious and dangerous condition.

Do you have the H and L adjuster screws on the carb? If so, then normally I'd back out a little bit on the L (low speed side of carb) The instructions for adjusting carbs, years ago, on 2-stroke, say to back out on the L when motor will not rapidly rev up. Most 2-stroke carbs have these 2-jets. The L is for gas to pass to motor with butterfly throttle plate closed. When opening throttle plate, there is a sudden rush of air, at first, and this L adjustment is allowing enough gas to pass for motor to begin to rev. up. Then the gas will also flow through another small port H, usually a small brass tube in the venture area (smallest diameter section of carb). You adjust the H with the throttle wide open, motor revved up. Turn either in or out slightly till highest RPMS reached, motor smooth and fast, then turn H out about 1/4 turn. The idea is to run motor slightly rich for highest HP when under load (cutting). Hope this helps
