Question about Dryers

1 Answer

I have a Whirlpool dryer model number LHI7801W0. Drum will not rotate. Motor operates. I believe it is a broken belt. How do I get access to this area to investigate problem and/or replace belt?

Yes, the bottom panel (toe panel) poped right-off. I also had to remove the front panel assembly which incorporates the door. This was a little tricky since the springs which are attached to the door added a downward force on the front panel assembly. You must support the front panel while removing the mounting screws. Not so bad. Also I found that its important to disconnect the wire harness from the front panel before removal. Thank you for getting back with me and all your help.

One of two ways you have a two part front panel the lower part take a flat head screw driver to each side at the top of it and pop it open or at teh top were the clean vent filter is the are two screws remove and at front of dryer pop top open upwards then there are two screws at front to hold panel up

Dryer heats but won't tumble

More than likely it is the belt. The dryer has a motor that drives the drum usind a rubber belt that has probably broken. It is fairly easy to replace. Take top off dryer by lifting up top in front, (should be hinged) then you will see if belt is on or broken. Go to local appliance store with make and model number from your dryer and then you will have to lift drum out of case and put belt around it and replace. if you cannot reach belt to put around motor from top you will have to remove back access panel. Put belt on motor and dry away. Good luck.

Changing dryer belt on kirkland/whirlpool dryer took apart dryer but dont see where belt suppose to mount.

Hello. The belt goes around the tub and the tension pulley. In fact, it is always a good idea to replace both the belt and the idler/tension pulley at the same time. J.

If you want a schematic go to searsdirect.com and enter your model number. J.

WHIRLPOOL ELECTRIC DRYER.MODEL # LEQ9508PW1. DRYER IS NOT SPINNING. MOTOR IS HEATING AND RUNNING FINE. I OPENED TOP AND BELT IS ON BUT LOOSE. BELT IS NOT BROKEN JUST LOOSE. WHAT COULD THIS BE?

You will have to go farther and remove the drum.
I believe your problem is that the belt has slipped off of the motor, or has slipped off the idler arm with pulley brackett.

Good Luck,
I hope this helps

I have a Whirlpool gas dryer that buzzes when I turn it on and gets hot, but does not rotate.

The problem you describe sounds like a broken belt. The steps below outline how to check for that and disassemble if necessary.

Disconnect Power. Lift Cover on lint filter. Remove two Phillips screws taking care NOT to allow them to fall into the blower housing. Place putty knife in the seam between the top and front panel about 2” in from either side. Push in on clip while pulling control panel forward and tilting putty knife handle up, all at the same time. Same on opposite side. Raise top all the way.

Check for belt on drum half way back on the drum running from left to right. If belt is missing or broken replace with part number 341241 later in this process.

Looking down inside dryer on left and right see a 5/16" hex head screw about 6 inches down. Remove each side while holding front panel in place. Pull top of front panel about 3 inches forward from sides and then pull up. This will disengage the front panel from lower pressure clips and allow you to turn it sideways and expose the dryer interior. Rotate front panel to right to get it out of the way watching to ensure wiring is not damaged.

Place new belt over drum groove side down if old one was broken. Check white idler pulley for free rotation before installing in holes of floor under motor pulley. Replace with part number 691366 if rotation of pulley is not free or if it appears worn. Loop belt with ribs inward and pass through the open space in the idler arm below pulley then pass loop over motor pulley rib side down. The configuration at the motor should now look like the Whirlpool model in the image below:

Grasp front edge of dryer drum and rotate counterclockwise slowly to align idler and motor pulley and to remove any twists in the belt.

Reverse disassembly process to re-assemble. Good Luck

You have to remove the front panel. The top folds back and there are 2 screws on the inside corners to release the front. Eric

Gas dryer doe not rotate

It could be that the motor/drum belt has slipped off the pulley, or has broken.

You can unplug the dryer and pull it out from the wall and remove the rear access panel to see if you can see the belt and whether it has broke or slipped off the motor pulley.

If you need to get a replacement belt, you can get locally or online at several sources. If you want to attempt the repair yourself, you might want to look at how your dryer is put together. Go to searspartsdirect.com and enter in the full model number of your dryer and you'll see what it looks like and see a list of all available parts,

Just so you know, it will take some time to disassemble the dryer in order to get the belt installed and you'll likely need a hand getting the belt onto the drum once you get everything taken apart.

Hope this helps and best regards!

How to install a belt on a Whirlpool dryer model LEW0050PQ?

The tech I paid to replace the belt opened the case from the top and the back, and pulled the drum back away from the front, keeping the drum attached to the back panel. This exposed the motor and the broken belt, which had been cut by the motor drive wheel, probably because the drum was too heavy. Don't you just love renters?

Roper dryer not working

If the drum will not rotate, look for a broken belt or even possibly a faulty motor. If it is a belt, it should be relatively cheap to repair and possibly easy for you to aquire the specs on the breakdown of the dryer to access the belt for installation. If the belt isn't broken, then the motor is possibly shot and I am unsure of how much ROPER parts are. Be model number and serial number SPECIFIC when ordering parts, and don't go with the "SUGGESTED MATCH" just to save money if you can avoid it, they aren't always compatible.
