Installing printer to gateway notebook with no where to put disk

My gateway notebook does not have a disk drive to install software for the printer. The printer connects to the notebook through a usb port...does it matter which port? Sorry i'm very computer illiterate and appreciate any help in getting this printer installed. Thank you.

You could download the printer drivers and software from the manufacturers website to negate the use of a disk.

Had to install a new hard drive, how do I install device drivers and OS??

You have 2 options here:

1.You can contact Gateway and purchase a set of restore disks that will put your pc back to factory original condition with all the drivers and software.

2. You can install windows using a generic windows disc and the license key on the sticker on the bottom of the laptop. You will have to download all he drivers yourself and install them if you go this route.

Hope this helps!

I assume you want to install windows XP on your laptop.
The XP installation disk doesn't contain the SATA drivers needed to operate your harddisk.

There are two different aproaches to solve this kind of issue.
First: (very simple, works only sometimes): enter the BIOS setup and find any option related to SATA MODE. Change the current option to something like LEGACY or anyway, to other value than the default one. Try now to do the windows installation again.

Second: (not so simple, but work everytimes): The goal is to create a custom windows installation disk, especially for your laptop. This can be done using a free software called N-LITE.
Using this software + your old windows installation disk + the SATA drivers downloaded from the Gateway support site you will be able to burn a new windows installation disk with the SATA drivers integrated. Keep this new created disk for future use.
If you need help about using N-lite, you can find a lot of examples and tutorial online, but of course you can ask here again about that, I'll be glad to offer further help.

Please let me know if it helped.

Good luck!

You can turn on your laptop first and then put the disk in the driver. It seems your laptop is set to start from the disk, and if you do as I said above it should not effect it

How can i connect a lexmark 4600 to a notebook that runs on xp but doesnt have a disk drive to load software

John - the easiest way is to download the needed software and install it. If your notebook is not connected get access to another PC, download the software (or copy it from that PCs optical drive) and put it on a USB thumb drive and plug it into the notebook to install. If you don't have a thumb drive you can get one almost anywhere now, supermarkets, chain drug stores, etc.
Good Luck, Mikeywaf

Failure pridicted on hard disk 2

Immediately back up your drive contents to an external USB hard drive or other device. Buy a new hard drive, install it according to the instructions. Many drive manufacturers include software and directions to copy the complete contents of the old drive to the new drive. Hopefully, you'll be able to get this accomplished before it all comes tumbling down. The fewer times you shut it down and restart it, the better. If the information on the drive is critical, get something like Acronis drive imaging software to "snap" an image of the drive and put it on an external drive. If you haven't burned the restore disks, follow the manufacturer's directions so that, at worst case, you can get it back to factory new condition, which will leave you without your files.

CD drive does not read all disks

You might try going to the website of the printer's manufacturer. They may have drivers online that you can download, which will bypass the issue you are currently having. If this is not the case, you might see if the manufacturer of the cd drive has updated software for the drive. Maybe this is a known issue to them. Good luck.
