I have a vgn nr 160 and had the same problem
what i did first was place the plastic pieces back into the nodules they were suppse to be in. they will flex so that a x like shaped is formed on the side.
then i placed the key on top and you'll notice that two notches on the back side slip into the plastic, so i slipped those two into the proper notches and then pressed down to snap the front two notches back into place.
maybe that helps?

Its not easy ,,,but you have to look at the spring assembly and see how it works, look at the bottom of the key button and see how it attaches.Once you figure that out and get it set right you just press it into place.Sometimes you can look at one that is still connected to the keyboard and see how its hooked up and that may help reassembling it.

I have a sony vaio VGN-TZ240N. every time I hit the "A" key I get "AS". I have removed the key and cleaned the inside with isopropilic alcohol, but the problem remains. Any help you...

It could be a problem with an electronic trace on the keyboard or the integrated chip. You might have to get a new keyboard.
Have you also removed the S key and cleaned that area?

Try to clean the keyboard. Sometimes the key might got struck, check for the \ key whether it is struck or not. If the problem persists you have to call Sony service center.

Some keys on Sony Vaio VGN FS830w stopped working

Hi:
Most of the time it is a keyboard failure. You can troubleshoot this by plugging in an external keyboard and seeing how that works, but most of the time it is your keyboard. They are not expensive on ebay, maybe $15 + shipping, and not hard to change

I am missing the control key button on the lower left side of keyboard and missing the I button.

The only thing you can do at this point is to find a broken sony laptop keyboard and take the keys off that and put them on your keyboard or just to get a brand new keyboard cause if certain keys fell off then others may be soon to follow.

Just from a search from Ebay brought up this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-Keyboard-KEY-VGN-S370-VGN-S380-VGN-S430-VGN-S460_W0QQitemZ270336571206QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCA_Mice_Trackballs?hash=item3ef150b746&_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116

You can buy just the keys you need and the total cost would be less then the cost of a new keyboard and a new one can cost around $80.00 as according to this website:

http://product.pelltechnology.com/Sony_Vaio_VGN-S460_Keyboard_replacement.asp

At least you have a choice in which way you want to go.
