I need a driver for a Sony DVD RW DRU-820A burner

yoiu do not need drivers in windows 2000 and above for any cd/dvd player/burner. check if it is listed in your hardware, if not then check inside if it is actually physicaly connected.

try cleaning the registy

Hi there,

Download the most current drivers for your Chipset. Uninstall the drive via Device Manager, restart your system and let Windows install it. Update to the latest Windows Service Pack. Download the updated Firmware version and internal drivers from here:

did you try to do the emergency eject ?
jewellers driver in drive pinhole.
use the eject method again, Computer powered Off. Open the drawer and push it back in firmly.
This is an eject button, make/break switch problem.
Also try ejecting the drive from my computer/Right click with mouse ( CD Drive ) Eject.
And ensure the 4 Pin Molex ( Red-Black-Black-Yellow ) is the right way round. Yellow usually faces to the outside of the casing.

Double check the Ribbon Cable Connector is installed Correctly ( 40-80 Strand IDE ) sometimes if these are not fitted squarely Or pushed in hard enough. Can cause a Problem.
Also try the emergency eject procedure on The Drive. Small jewellers screwdriver Or Needle, insert into the drives faceplate ( pinhole in drives faceplate drawer ) push to open dvd drawer. pull out drawer Gently. And push back in. This ocassionally works for a stcking Drawer/eject mechanism.
Finally try the drive without a disk in ( open/eject Or Close )

Resolved, unsure what I did but a full re-install of xp and all is working after I did my final windows updates. keep in mind that a fresh install of winxp sp2 with none of 88 recommended patches it still wasnt working
