Is the tv registered in the display properties with the correct settings? To be sure go to Start - Control Panel - Display - Settings and you should see 2 displays: 1 will be for the screen of the laptop and 2 for the tv - click on it. If it's disabled just remove the VGA cable, put it back and enable it. Next select the Extend... option and finally select its native resolution - 1024x768 , click Apply and you should see the image. Click Yes to keep this settings and click OK to close and save all settings.

Thank you for advice. I "tuned" laptop as advised and it worked very well with my neighbour's 42in Samsung Plasma TV (about 5years old and Model No. impossible to read).
Still cannot get it to work on our 42in Panasonic Plasma.

    Any further suggestions?

Is the tv recognized as a second monitor when connected to the laptop? Is the correct signal source  - in your case PC - selected in your tv? Is the cable fully inserted and both the security bolts fully tightened? Check all of these.

As a last resort you can connect the tv to the laptop using the S-video connector but the image quality will be slightly lower and the resolution to use  will be 1280x720

HOW CAN I HOOK THE Panasonic TH-42PX75U TO THE VGA OUTPUT ON MY COMPUTER?

If your computer has an HDMI socket, all you need is an HDMI cable. If not you need a VGA cable (the blue cable that usually connects a computer to it's monitor. One end goes into the socket on your TV marked VGA or PC. the other end goes into the monitor output on your computer. if you have a laptop, there will be a vga socket (usually blue inlay in the socket) on the side or back. you will then need to set up the second screen in Control panel, display settings. If using the VGA cable, you will need to run an audio cable from the speaker/headphone socket of your computer to your tv (there will be a 3.5mm jack near the VGA socket) or to your audio receiver.
Good luck.

Can i connect my panasonic viera th-42px8ou plasma tv,to my vista desk top? my tv has hdmi on it,my vista tower also says it has 1 hdmi connector on the back of it

You can buy an HDMI to DVI adapter (around 20$) to connect your HDMI computer cable to your TV. You will need separates audios cables, right and left, to bring the sound to the TV.

The pc interface does not work with eiter of my laptops (despite trying a new cable). Any suggestions? thanks Stuart

Generally speaking the problem is usually a resolution issue. Check the owner's manual to verify the screen resolutions that are supported. next verify that you are selcting the correct input. It is possible that you may have 2 theings connected to the same input. The VGA input can also have a standard component input as well. The menus should allow you to select either the VGA or component input type. If the above does not help, update this with the screen resolution values for your computer system and a description of how you are connected and I'll research this a bit more.

First off, is the tv set to use the hdmi input? if not, change tv to hdmi input and try again. If still no good, you likely need to tell the laptop to use the hdmi connector. Try this:
  1. connect hdmi from laptop to tv and select hdmi input on tv.
  1. while holding the blue fn key (bottom left side of kbd) press and release the F5 key. This will toggle the laptop between the laptop lcd display, external connectors (vga/hdmi), or both simultaneously. Let me know if this works or not.....

How to conect a pc to a panasonic plasma th50px75u?

Panasonic didn't make it a simple matter to connect a computer to this TV since they didn't include a VGA input connector. You can still do it, but it will require some adapters or changes to your PC.

If you're using a laptop, you have two options. If the laptop offers an s-video output, you can use a suitable cable from there to one of the set's s-video inputs. If there's no s-video output, the other option is to purchase a VGA-to-component breakout cable, available at a number of online vendors (search with Google). This cable has the VGA connector to the computer on one end, and 3 RCA plugs at the other end. You would use this cable into one of the set's component video inputs.

With a desktop PC, you can still use one of those two options. In addition, there may be a DVI video output connector available as well. This is not common on computers with integrated video, but is frequently found on many newer expansion video cards. If your computer has this connector (or you install a new video card with one), you can use a DVI-to-HDMI adapter and connect an HDMI cable to one of the set's HDMI inputs. Many video cards with DVI outputs include one of these adapters already.

So while it's not going to be simple, it's certainly possible to connect your PC to this TV.
