Hp color laser jet 4600 57.40 error

57 indicates a printer fan error has occurred

the .4 points to the formatter fan (F1) is bad.

Connector J1004. Voltage should be 24 VDC between pins 1 & 3.

If it is, then replace the fan, if it isn't, replace the DC Controller PCB.

57 fan error turn off then on

You will need to replace the fan. Looking at the front of the printer, the fan should be on the right side. You will need to remove right side of the printer to gain access to the fan. Contact HP for a replacement fan.

57 service error message. Wht does that mean? We

A fan failure was detected.Printer fan or Duplex fan.
1. Check the fan’s connector and make sure the fan is not blocked.
2. Replace the fan.

On older style printers this is often caused by a bad main motor. (Older style printer being printers with halogen heating elements in the fuser - 4, 4+, 5, 4si, 5si, etc).
