Maytag sidebyside MSD2758DRW ice maker won't make ice

My Maytag side by side MSD2758DRW ice maker no longer makes ice. The arm was having trouble "pushing" the cubes out awhile back, so I disconnected the icemaker power coupling. I tried plugging it back in to do some troubleshooting, and the arm just keeps going around and around. No water comes to fill the tray. The water dispenser in the door works fine. Any ideas?

Additional info: I previously had problems with the fill tube in the past, so that was the first thing I tried. I checked the fill tube to make sure it was not frozen, and even ran the blow dryer to melt anything that might have been frozen in the fill tube.

In addition, it seemed that the push arm was having trouble pushing the ice out, so when I used the blow dryer on the fill tube, it also seems to have warmed up the ice tray enough so that it was able to cycle once more. However, this was months ago, and I never got it to fill again.

That was useless. The ice dispenser is not the issue, the ice MAKER is.

    To review:
-Ice maker is not making ice.
-No water is going into ice maker.
    -Fill tube is not clogged
-If ice maker is plugged in, the roatating arm of the ice MAKER (not dispenser) keeps rotating. For lack of a better term, let's call it the rotating "ice pusher" that dispenses the ice into the bin.

I'm leaning towards just buying another icemaker and installing it, but wondering if the issue is with the thermostat or another part.

Does anyone read the comments? I already used a blow dryer on the fill tube.

Hi,

If the ice maker no longer make ice, check the following.

Check to see whether the ice maker has been turned off. Here's how to check. Look for a wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If this wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. On some units you simply lower the wire to the down position to turn the ice maker on.

On others, you lower a small red plastic lever to lower the wire. If the wire is in the proper position check the freezer temperature, it should be between 0-8 degrees Fahranheit. If it is warmer than 10-12 degrees, the ice maker may not produce any ice.

Check your door seals and thermostat, repair/replace as necessary.

Thanks

First thing to do is check that your ice maker fill tube in the back of your refrigerator is not frozen. The fill tube will freeze frozen solid and stop the water flow to the ice maker. Use a blow dryer (hair dryer) to melt the ice from the tube. The fill tube can also continue to freeze up from a leaky water inlet valve. Click on the link below to read more:

If the water dispenser works fine, but there's no water comes in to fill the tray, then I could say that there is NO problem with the water valve and the solenoid. You have to check the water supply line from the valve to the ice maker. Be sure that the water supply line is not kinked behind or beneath the refrigerator (1/4-inch copper tubing is much better than plastic fill line).

There's a possibility that the water supply line freeze up. And the line is clog, that's why there's no water coming in to the ice maker.

Try to defrost the fridge, locate the water supply line going to the ice maker. Use a hair blower and try to heat up the tube. This will melt the ice that's in the tube.

Thank you and good luck!

Hello,

  • The ice dispenser operates in such a way that before ice can be delivered trough the refrigerator door, the ice maker must first dump the ice it makes into a large bin. In order to get the ice, one must press a lever that activates a switch. The switch turns on a motor that rotates the auger and then the ice is pushed out of the bin, through a chute to the user.
  • The water dispenser works similarly to the ice dispenser. To get water from the refrigerator door, one presses a lever on the front that activates a switch. The switch turns on an electric water valve and water flows through the valve into a tube; it then flows into a container in the refrigerator to be chilled.
Take care.

How do I turn off ice maker

Good Afternoon Rsimmon5,

I see that you are trying to turn off the ice maker to your Frigidaire refrigerator, model# FRS6R5EMB. You will be moving the signal arm to turn your refrigerator off.

To begin ice production, lower the wire signal arm to the DOWN or ON position. The ice maker turns off automatically when the ice container becomes full. To stop the ice maker, raise the wire signal arm until it clicks and locks in the UP or OFF position.

If you have any trouble with your ice maker continuing to make ice after this, I recommend contacting either the manufacturer or an authorized technician in your area. Hope this helps.

-Best Regards-

The ice maker is not making ice. The water filter has been replaced and there are no trouble indicators from the lights on the front of the unit. The house has a water softener for whole house service.

Where the water comes into the ice maker.Be sure it is not frozen up.If it is, remove ice with a hair dryer.

Also, reset ice maker by lifting full ice tray arm and putting it back down.

Maytag sidebyside msd2656kgb quit making ice S/N= 5019823jr the water line seems fine. ice is in the despencer I have lifted the arm up and down several time to no avail.

This may not be the problem now but by the sound of the malfunctioning ice maker, it could be in the future. The start device on some models of refridgerator for maytag and whirlpool have been recalled. If your appliance was manufactured in the last 5-10 years you may be having an issue with this component. Mine recently caught on fire at this device that is located near the compressor. If you would like to be a part of the petition for a recall on this appliance contact me at jboooor@hotmail.com
