one way to cheat is look in the device manager first.
then click VIEW and show all hidden devices.
do you see yours, and its full name there, then BINGO name

ill add one more way, called Pnp
if both chips are dead Pnp will be dead mostly.
so if say the LAN chip works on the Ethernet cable
one could click not he wlan chip in DM and then click
right , update driver. and the wlan gets PNP update from MS.

but this is useless if both chips are dead.

I suggest you plug into the internet using an ethernet cable and then open the device manager and ask it to search for an updated driver.

okay some ppl have been having the same problem with that device cause the PID number isn't the same

First find out what VID and PID Numbers you have

Step 1 go to device manager locate the "Linksys wireless G usb network adapter" (the name in quotes may be different for you but find your card which should have a similar name)

Step 2 right click on it and go to properties

Step 3 go to details tab

Step 4 either write the VID and PID numbers down or leave that window open to come back to later

Then you find the INF file and open in notepad (the one you downloaded 1xxx for vista)

Lastly in the INF file you locate the section under

And place your VID and PID numbers in the appropriate spot
