Just 'restore' the system or 'recover' the system to an earlier more pristine state. That will speed up your computer, and install all the right drivers for you. Then, make sure you have it connected to the Internet to do all of the automatic updates, and you're in like Flynn to the fast computer club.

How to make a computer run faster without purchasing more RAM?

First uninstall any programs that you are not using. Run disk cleanup and make sure you check all file folders before starting the process. Run disk defrag.

Check the amount of memory being used for system restore and turn it down as low as possible.

Open the internet and click on tools and then internet options. Click the settings box under browsing history and click the box that says everytime I visit the webpage and change the setting to 50. Then save and exit. Restart your pc and give it a test drive. You should see a big improvement.

My dell 4700 diagnostic lights A&B are yellow, C&D are green & the monitor is dark. I can not get anything to show up on the monitor. Everything has power & was working normally yesterday....

the LED indication is a Memory failure. Make sure when inserting RAM that the power is unplugged and you press and hold the power button till all power is discharged from the motherboard. WHen inserting RAM, make sure levers are int he full back position and you press down firmly with both thumbs till the module snaps in place and the levers snap up in the locked position on their own (DO not pull up the levers)
If there is no change trying RAM modules in slots individually, then either all RAM modules are damaged, or the slot is bad, in which case a motherboard is required

Dell computer.5 yrs.old. Very, very, slow. What can be done? Have dial up internet service. Also, what does memory upgrade mean?

Hi,

There's nothing you can do about your internet speed, dial up is dial up and is known to be slow. If you want fast internet then you would need broadband.

A memory upgrade would speed up the overall performance of the PC. For example: the computer may take 5 minutes to fully boot up and programs taking time to launch. This would not fully resolve but help it to be more responsive.

A memory upgrade is always recommended by me. I expect that your computer can be probably maxed out to 2GB of memory.

Regards.

My system says, (RAM) radon access memory low cpu intel (r) pentium 4 cpu, version 2.80 ghz. RAM 256 mb. What can I do to resolve this problem. Dell 4700 dimension

Windows XP requires a "bare-minimum" of 128MB of RAM, works "OK" with your 256MB of RAM, if you don't open too many programs at the same time, and if you close/re-open Internet Explorer about once an hour of usage.

But, Windows XP would be _much_ "happier" if you added 256MB or 512MB of RAM, because it is telling you ("available random access memory is low") that it is using all the RAM.

Add more RAM -- your computer will run much better.

How can I upgrade/improve the capabilities of my Inspiron 1200

The best and quickest improvement is to add more RAM. Add another 512 Mb of RAM. If you already have a 512 Mb of RAM module then add another 512 Mb RAM module. If your laptop has 2X256 Mb RAM modules then you need to remove these and insert 2X512 Mb RAM modules.
The reason why you have 504 Mb RAM is that the video card has grabbed 8Mb of RAM off the main memory.

Computer is very slow.

McAfee virus software is a memory hog. You need to add more memory to your pc. It uses pc3200 memory. This computer has a memory capacity of 4gigabytes. The memory slots are numbered this way......starting from the memory slot closest to the processor>
one, three, two, four. 1 and 2 work together, 3 and 4 work together. So if you buy just 2 gigabytes......put them in 1 and 2. This will help. Sounds like the virus software is doing a full system scan....you could do a "quick"scan and do a "full" scan once a week....

How Can I Speed Up My Slow PC?

Go to Trend Micro and run Housecall to check your PC for viruses and spyware.
If it is still slow go to Start and click on My Computer. Right click on your C: drive and choose Properties. Run the Disk Cleanup. When that finishes click on the Tools tab and do a Check Disk and Disk Defrag.
