Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

No sound from my su-z2 amp. Worked fine last time it was used-switch on again-nothing. Have pulled the case apart and checked componentry [after dust removal] everything looks ok. Main switch is ok. Any ideas? Would like to keep it if I can.

Dust removal? dust is the enemy of electronics. dust in the wrong place can fry a chip, very easily.

If the main switch is ok, that's good, but there's a lot of sophisticated components on the pc board that when the machine is not kept clean, can fail unexpectedly.

This sounds like an internal amplifier problem. Did you smell anything burn? Try turning it off completely and plugging it to a different outlet.

If all else fails, have it checked by an electronics technician...

It sounds like a hair in the disc cartridge or the loading cavity. I once drove myself nuts with the same situation only to find a vary fine hair bouncing around.
If you have the savvy to open it up, get a good light, an opta viser and look for a hair or dust. A can of dust off would be an asset. In my case it took several tries because I was not certain at that point what the problem was, but it was a hair. A cleaning disc is not enought to get it out in most cases.
I saved a $700 MD deck by getting the hair out....

Sounds like electrolytic capacitor dried up needs curing, which is power on capacitor and left it absorb some moisture in humidity on power. Some time a few minutes, hard cases may take a few days.

Plug it in, it does NOTHING. It worked fine

Make sure the forward reverse switch is pushed fully one way or the other. If it has a 2 speed selector switch check to make sure it is fully one way or the other. If neither of those are your problem check it at another outlet that you know is good. Inspect the power cord for a break. If none of these things are the problem then you will have to take it apart to see what the problem is. It may very well be the switch. Use a multimeter set to ohms to check the switch. It should show an open circuit with no reading until you push the switch and then you should get a reading. At the switch check to make sure you have 120 volts coming in.

Technics SU-V98 No Sound

If I understand your posting correctly, the amp works using the Aux In connectors but not using the VCR1 even when VCR1 is selected correct? If that is the case, there is an internal electronic switching IC (TA9263 I think) that may be defective. This is not a complex repair and can be confirmed easily by any shop that does audio repair. They will trace the incoming signal with an oscilloscope to the IC and see nothing come out when VCR1 is selected. The IC costs less than $10.

I just bought this saw used off of e-bay. Got it home check to see if it would run, It did. The next day got the saw out and nothing. By passed the breaker and the switch and it ran fine. Ended up taking the switch out and apart I found that there is a rocker inside that either rocks in one direction (off) or the other direction is (on). the on side has a contact similar to a points contact on an older vehicle. Mine had some saw dust between the contact thus no power. wiped it out and the saw was fine.
