I own a ibook G4 1.42 ghz and the battery no longer seems to charge when plugged in. I recently purchased a nupower battery and it worked great. Should I try an external charger?

I'd try another AC adapter first. It's not unknown for them to go bad and no longer deliver the power necessary to charge the battery. It's really unlikely for the charge circuitry internal to the iBook to go bad.

To help with getting your battery to charge, try resetting the PMU

-PMU RESET-
The Power Manager (PMU) is an integrated circuit (computer chip) that is usually on the logic board of your Mac computer.

It is responsible for power management of the computer. It controls backlighting, hard disk spin down, sleep and wake, some charging aspects, trackpad control, and some input/output as it relates to the computer sleeping.

• If the computer is on, turn it off.
• Now refer to this article from Apple.com Support
Resetting the PMU for Powerbook and iBooks

If this process does not help to allow your battery to charge normally, you more than likely have a battery which may be either dead or eventually will die in its charge capability.

What I would recommend if that is the case, would be to consider purchasing a new battery from Apple or via a third party reseller like online Apple authorized resellers like Amazon.com, MacMall.com or Fry's Electronics for example. You may also Google with keywords "purchase iBook battery " and shop for the best priced iBook battery.

Again, you would only consider the latter, if the former procedure listed above does not help.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

If there are no power points in your vehicle, you might have to purchase a battery-operated powerpack and plug the GPS into that via a USB/AC adapter.

Unfortunately, as far as I know, there is no "Replacement" part for this. It will have to be fixed by the Manufacturer. It isn't a "Part" per-say, but a circuit on the motherboard itself. If it is no longer working, then it is a hardware issue, and since it is a "Laptop" style computer, there is no way to simply fix it.

IBook G4 battery charging, but won't power on

Stupid question but did you remember to reconnect the start up switch to the logic board? Also check to make sure you did not break the connector loose from the logic board.

Will not connect to internet via airport

Start from scratch. Go back to your main computer and create a USB key and try that way.

Wondering, is your MAc setup for wireless?

Another thought, i had the same issue connecting my Mac to my parents wireless. I used the installation disc and that solved that.

Mac Ibook Power supply problem

On Mac iBooks the orange light comes on when it charges the battery. Once the battery is charged it turns green. Im guessing the other powersupply was aftermarket or broken. EIther way, if it starts out green - recognizes the battery isnt full - turns orange for a while - then turns green when the battery is full, then the computer and powersupply are working perfectly. Enjoy your iBook!

I replaced the battery. The new one keeps a charge and lets the ac adapter charge the battery. I plan on purchasing a new battery and recycling the old one.

IBook Blueberry Battery Problem

What you could do is that you could look around online like on ebay or on a great site called www.ifixit.com . That is a great site and they have a lot of great parts for both mac laptops and iPods/iPhones.

Good Luck!

IBook Clamshell Startup problem after Upgrade

Given that the "power ring" no longer lights up, I am wondering if the DC-in board is mis-connected in some way. No light = no power going to logic board, and no power going to charge the battery.

An alternative test would be to borrow a charged battery from another clamshell. If the machine boots, you know that there's something askew with the DC-in board.

BTW, there are excellent take-apart guides for iBooks at iFixit.com
