I forget my lenovo 3000 y500 bios password, how do i bios open without open the cmos

Normally, you can just move a jumper or unplug the CMOS battery to clear the password. But, I found the following in the Ideapad Y500 repair manual:

"A supervisor password (SVP) protects the system information stored in the BIOS Setup Utility. The user must enter the SVP in order to get access to the BIOS Setup Utility and change the system configuration.
Attention: If the SVP has been forgotten and cannot be made available to the servicer, there is no service procedure to reset the password. The system board must be replaced for a scheduled fee."

Bios password

From Comptuerhope.com
A laptop BIOS password is more secure than a traditional desktop to help protect the data if it was stolen. If you are the original owner of the laptop, we highly recommend contacting the manufacturer of the laptop. Companies such as Dell, Lenovo, and Toshiba can reset the password if you are the original owner using the Service Tag, disk, or give you exact steps for your laptop. Gateway is owned by Dell so they should be able to assist you better with this issue.

Password hack

While removing the onboard battery and disconnecting all power for 5 minutes may clear the bios, some passwords are written into NvRam (non volitile Ram). This may require you to move some jumpers. Try this.
It may be necessary, on occasion, to clear the CMOS settings. When the CMOS is cleared, all information stored in the CMOS is replaced by default data, which means that all of the configuration information, such as hard drive types and I/O port setup, is cleared, including the password. Use the following procedure to clear CMOS:
  1. Power down the computer.
  2. Remove the left cover of the computer.
  3. Wearing an anti-static wristband grounded to the chassis, remove the jumper from pins 1 - 2 of the Clear CMOS jumper block (JP15) and install it on pins 2 - 3.
  4. Remove the jumper from pins 2 - 3 of the Clear CMOS jumper block (JP15) and install it on pins 1 - 2. (NOTE: Some earlier systems will power up as soon as the jumper is removed from pins 1-2. Later versions of the BIOS change this, 6.00.10 or later.)
  5. Reinstall the cover and power up the computer.
  6. Run the BIOS Setup program to reconfigure the system.

Under the keyboard or bottom of laptop - If you are working on a laptop computer the location of the dipswitch (almost never a jumper) can be under the keyboard or on the bottom of the laptop in a compartment such as the memory compartment.

If you cannot access the machine after if has been powered up, it is still possible to get past the BIOS password. The BIOS password is stored in CMOS memory that is maintained while the PC is powered off by a small battery, which is attached to the motherboard. If you remove this battery, all CMOS information (including the BIOS password) will be lost. You will need to re-enter the correct CMOS setup information to use the machine. The machines owner or user will most likely be alarmed when it is discovered that the BIOS password has been deleted.

On some motherboards, the battery is soldered to the motherboard, making it difficult to remove. If this is the case, you have another alternative. Somewhere on the motherboard you should find a jumper that will clear the BIOS password. If you have the motherboard documentation, you will know where that jumper is. If not, the jumper may be labeled on the motherboard. If you are not fortunate enough for either of these to be the case, you may be able to guess which jumper is the correct jumper. This jumper is usually standing alone near the battery. If you cannot locate this jumper, you might short both of the points where the battery connects to the motherboard.

If all else fails, you may have to clear the BIOS password by resetting the RTC (Real Time Clock) IC (Integrated Circuit) on your motherboard.
