I have an Armstrong Air Concept 1000 AC unit won't turn on

I have an Armstrong Air Concept 1000 AC unit that will not turn on. The thermostat is working fine and I can feel a ''hum'' when I place my hand on the unit. But the fan is not turning, and the unit does not ''kick on'' like it does when operating correctly. Where do I start?

Neither of the above solutions are correct. You need to replace the capacitor 35/5 uhf 370 vac the cost should be $15 or less at a local HVAC retailer. Make sure you have the breakers off plus pull the contacts out which are inside the big box connected to your house. Make sure you pay attention to where the wires go. The red wire goes to common, the yellow to compressor (herm) brownish to the fan. The capacitor will be oval not round <!-- from fixya rte -->

You need to check the contactor inside the unit it where your thermostat calls for cooling be careful this has 240 volts on it. this is what kicks the compressor and condesner fan on. Its a black rectangular box.

I have an armstrong air concept 1000 ac unit that is making a slight rattling sound. The unit itself works great, but the sound has me concerned. What could it be?

usually the fan touching the casing. They move on the spindle sometimes. It can also just be a vibration to a metal part.
