SOURCE: camera wont turn on

Hey Chappy 2,
A couple things I can suggest is to make sure the memory card and battery covers are closed, and/or make sure the battery contacts are clean by polishing the terminals with a soft cotton swab. If this doesn’t work your camera does have a 1 year manufacturers warranty and you can call canon and have it sent to one of their service center or you could bring it to a Geek Squad® precinct in a Best Buy™ store and they will send it out for service under the manufacturers’ warranty.

Sincerely,
Allan

You can buy an adapter to use FD mount lenses on EOS mount cameras. See this page for more details.

If you bought the camera in January, it's still under warranty for a year. When you get home call 1-800-OK-CANON to arrange warranty repair. They're usually very good about it, and will try to make things right.

A screw inside some Canon PowerShot SD950 IS cameras may loosen and fall out due to vibration that is generated while carrying or using the camera. Apparently a screw might have come out that prevents the camera from turning on.
The repair is free-of-charge, even fro out-of-warranty period.

I think it helps.

Have you actually cleaned the contacts or are you just looking at them and they "look" clean? Clean them with a cotton swab lightly dampened in rubbing alcohol.

My Canon SD950is camera asks me to submit time/date info every time I turn on the camera. The manual says this means the internal battery is depleted and needs to be recharged. I have a fully charged...

Yes I get something similar with my Panasonic camera just because I take the battery out when the camera is waiting for the next outing, but it is ok as soon as I set the clock and if I leave the battery in. From what you said then perhaps the internal battery is faulty but if you don't usually leave the battery in, you could try leaving the battery in for a few days to see if that restores some power to the internal battery.

I have a 1 and 1/2 year old powershot SD950IS digital elph - worked fine one day and would turn on the next day . . . two different charged batteries, still not powering on. Is it fixable?

That can be from a few causes such as the fuses blowing. It is worth fixing if you have warranty but may cost as much or more than a replacement camera if you are no longer covered..

Hello I have a canon IXUS 960 IS. Yesterday when I was using the camera it only closed half way when powering the camera off. Now the camera doesn't open fully and when pusing the "play" button the power...

If the outside of the lense get dirty, those small particles may prevent the lense from opening and closing 100% as nomal times. I had the same problem with my Sony. Here is what I did.

1- I cleaned the outside(sides not the lense itself) of the lense.
2- While turning the camera off, I press on the lense (up and down motion) NOT too hard for a few times untill it either retracted all the way inn or most of the way in. If most of the way in, press the lense a little harder untill it retracts 100%. If you turn it back on, it should work as normal unless some mechanical part of the lense is broken or dislocated. When it fully opens, clean up the outside of the lense and keep it always clean for normal operation.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!

Compatible lenses

All Canon EOS cameras (including the film Rebels and the digital Rebels) can use the same EF lenses.

There are some Canon lenses named EF-S that will only work with recent models of Canon digital SLR cameras, but EF lenses will work with all Canon digital SLRs.

Camera wont turn on

Camera will not power on. Canon posted a bulletin regarding a possible solution for some SD950's at the following website. Apparently this model has a screw that can come loose inside and the camera will not power. They just found this to be the case with my SD950, and they fixed it for free. It was outside of the warranty by a couple months. They even sent me a prepaid UPS shipping label to send them my camera for repair. See the link below for more on this possible solution:
