Unfortunately when a computer is in recovery back up / and when it is manually shut off you run the risk of damaging the hardrive / to the point where it cannot boot now.

Since you just got it. take it back and say it was defective. It the only way you will get a positive outcome from it.

WHen you turn it on listen for "clicks" in the hardrive . that would be bad signs. meaning clicks of *****/

good luck i hope everything works out.

Borrow any Vista install DVD and boot from it

Follow it through until you are asked if you want to install Vista or Repair your Computer
Select repair and let it do its thing - it may work
Failing that its a full reinstall by the sounds of it

If it does not offer you the initial boot option then look on the boot screen for the boot options key - probably F11 or F12 - and press that during initial boot to obtain the boot options screen

Hi koga9783...

How to reinstall the Operating system on your computer

Select models of Acer laptops, with Microsoft Windows, have the ability to have the Operating System reinstalled from a hidden partition built into the computer.
Note: During the process, all data stored on your computer will be overwritten. This means all your files, such as email and photos, will be erased. Therefore, we recommend making a backup of all personal data before starting the recovery process.
To start the system recovery:
1.Restart the computer.
2.When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the Alt and F10 keys repeatedly.
3.If you are prompted with a Microsoft Windows boot screen, press the Enter key.
4.After the system recovery application has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the Operating System.
If the ability to reinstall from the previous method is not available or fails, recovery of the Operating System will need to be from Recovery Media. If you do not have a set of Acer Recovery Media, you may purchase the set online from the Acer Recovery Media Order Form..
Note: If your computer does not have an internal optical disc drive, an external optical disc drive will be required in order to recover the Operating System using Acer Recovery Media.
1.Restart the computer.
2.When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the F12 key repeatedly to enter the computer's Boot Menu.
3.Press the CD-ROM drive eject button and insert the disc labeled System CD.
4.Close the CD-ROM tray.
5.Refer to on screen instructions to select either CDROM or USB CDROM.
6.The computer will boot from the Acer Recovery Media
7.When prompted for the Recovery CD, remove the System CD and insert the Recovery CD.

Note: If there are multiple Recovery CDs, please insert the first of the Recovery CDs.

8.After the system recovery application has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the Operating System.
Note: if your computer is unable to run the Acer Recovery process, or errors occur during recovery, please contact Acer support.

How do i restore my hp pavilion dv 5000 to factort setting?

There should have been a recovery disk created or included when you bought a laptop. Insert disk if you have it and restart your computer with the recovery disk in the CD drive. Make sure all your documents and personal data are backed up. When the computer restarts it should start restoring your computer to the factory default. There will be a wizard to guide you through the process.
If there is no disk or got lost, then follow this steps:
1.Save any files or folders on your computer with flash drives. Drag and drop files onto the icon of your flash drive.
2.Go to "Start" > "Restart" to reboot your netbook.
3.Hold down "Alt" and "F10" when you see the logo on the screen. The recovery menu will load.
4.Hit "Enter" and then "Next" to see your recovery options. Choose "Factory Restore" to set your computer back to factory settings. Follow the instructions on the screen.
5.Choose your time zone and language when the customization menu appears. Reboot when you are prompted.
6.Restore your saved files from the flash drive.

hope this helps,Goodluck..pls response with your rate and testimonials below for further issues..thanks

Does anyone know how to perform a system restore on an HP m7250n? I never made recovery disks when I first purchased the PC, and now I would like to reset everything back to original factory settings.

    Hi,

I guess you would want to run the system recovery not restore as restore just takes the computer to an earlier date it does not delete anything .So as you said that u want to take the computer back to its original factory settings u need to first disconenct all the esternal devices along with the cable for the internte and then if u have XP then u need to tapp the F10 key repeatedly as soon as u turn the computer on and need to keep on tapping it until u get the system recovery page.Once ur there then u need to follow the onscreen instruction until u get to a page that has ADVANCE OPTION ...need to click on that and then select destructive recovery and then click on next .The recovery will start automa tically and format the computer .
If u have vista then u need to tapp the f11 key, tapp the key until u get the screen that says revovery manager ... then select the advance option and then select system recovery... then click on next and then tje recovery will start automatically ...once it complets 100% restart or click on finish .Run the basic setup by follo wing the onscreen instruction ..

    All the best

Windows xp won't boot up and i end up getting this blue screen with the a stop error on it...

Sometimes BSOD are caused either by Software or Hardware problems, you can start running the diagnostic test first on the computer to check for hardware problems.

Try removing any external devices first (Ex. USB devices) then run some diagnostic test:

    1. Turn on computer
    2. Tap F12 continuously on the Dell logo screen
    3. Select Diagnostics
    4. Follow on screen instructions
    4. Wait for the test results (approximately 10-15min.)

If all test passed no problems have been found, it means there is no problem with hardware/computer. The problem is now pointing out to be software problem. Solution will be restoring it back to factory settings.

    1. Turn on computer
    2. Tap F8 continuously on the Dell logo screen
    3. Select Repair computer
    4. Follow instructions... then select "Dell Factory Image Restore " on the recovery options
    5. Follow instructions
    6. Wait for 20-25min. and computer now is back to factory settings

    Hope this helps

Starting the recovery from power up If Windows Vista cannot open and if the Recovery partition on the hard disk drive is functioning properly, you can perform a System Recovery by performing the following procedure:
    1. Turn off the computer.
    2. Disconnect all connected devices (such as the Personal Media Drive, USB drives, printer, and fax), remove media from drives, and remove any recently added internal hardware. Do not disconnect the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and power cord.

    4. Do one of the following actions depending on how Windows Vista was installed:
      • If Windows Vista came pre-installed on your computer, press the F11 key repeatedly when the first screen opens (the logo screen), until Recovery Manager program opens on the screen.
      • If your computer was upgraded from Windows XP to Windows Vista, press the F10 key repeatedly when the first screen opens (the logo screen) until Recovery Manager program opens on the screen.
If Recovery Manager does not open, a set of recovery discs is needed to perform a System Recovery. Follow the instructions listed in Starting the recovery from recovery discs .
    5. Click Next .
    6. On the screen that prompts for Microsoft System Restore select No , and then click Next .
    7. The Recovery Manager gives you the option of backing up your data files. Backing up your files is recommended. To back up your files select Yes , and then click Next . Follow the onscreen instructions. If you do not want to backup your files, select No , and then click Next .
    8. After the System Recovery is complete, the computer restarts and continues into Windows setup. Complete the setup screens and wait until the computer finishes the setup. Then, turn off the computer, reconnect all peripheral devices, and turn on the computer.
