I'd suggest to clean the printheads. Open the cover, remove the print cartridges and clean the printhead contacts carefully with a q-tip and isopropyl alcohol (or hot water) until the contacts are clean.

If you still experience a problem, please provide more info, such as exact printer model, any noises or error messages.

Hope this helps.

I cleaned the cartridges with rubbing alchohol and replaced. I tried to print but it came out extremely light.

Try cleaning the contacts where the cartridges connect.

    7. Wipe the print cartridge nozzles and contacts:

    2. Dampen a clean, lint-free cloth with water.

    3. Gently hold the cloth against the nozzles for about three seconds,
      and then wipe

    4. Using another clean section of the cloth, gently hold the cloth
against the contacts for about three seconds, and then wipe

Nina, it did get a bit better. I just have to figure out what are nozzles?

  • rightplay Jul 10, 2010

I cannot stay on line any longer. I will contact FixYa tomorrow.

  • NinaE Jul 10, 2010

OK. Here's more info about nozzles:

Nozzles, often also called ‘jets’, are attached to the printhead. The purpose of the nozzle is to act as a
channel for the ink as it goes from the ink tank to the paper

Could the fullness Indicator Bar not be working and, perhaps, I just need a new black cartridge?

  • NinaE Jul 12, 2010

If you are still experiencing a problem, then yes, change the cartridge.

I have a Lexmark Pinnacle Pro 901 printer and its set up to print using black ink only, but it keeps telling to replace color cartridges and it won't let me print at all, how do I print using blac

The printer would need all cartridges to have sufficient ink levels to continue printing - that's to prevent damaging the printhead. Every time a cartridge is replaced, all colors are primed simultaneously thus the need for all cartridges to have ink.

To save on your ink investment, try printing in draft mode and by making sure that your printing preferences is set to print using black ink only.

Ink shows full but color won't print

Uncommon faults are with the electronic drivers in the printer system that drive and control the printer cartridges. This is providing the cartridges are proven to not be defective. Also, jammed nozzles will prevent printing.

Make sure your software is not set to print in monochrome (B&W) only .

I have a PIXMA iP4300 and just want to use it for black and white document printing. My 'M' and 'C' color cartridges ran out a while ago and I disposed of them but didn't replace them...

Most of the Canon printers form the PIXMA iP series block printing when one of the cartridges is empty. You have some options: 1) change the cartridges (with original or compatible) 2) buy a chip resetter and reset the empty cartridges chip so they can cheat the printer that they are full. This way you will clog the nozzles of your print head and the printer will become useless and won't print.
That's why I suggest you to but even cheap compatible cartridges and replace them.
Hope this helps. Alex

Caution lite flashing over cartridge of hp deskjet 940c. error message says that there is not color ink cartridge in printer. There is and the interface says the tank is full. It won't print...

Even though the interface says the cartridge is full, if the printer detects it being empty, odds are you will have to replace the color cartridge, even though you are only printing black.
You can try taking the cartridge out and cleaning the contacts with a pencil eraser and reseat the color cartridge. If no change, replace the cartridge.
