Hello, please kindly scroll through to see the instructions provided below to guide you on how to go about your homelite weedheater. If it turns over.... I'd check the usual, spark and fuel.... use somegas or starting fluid down the carb, if it starts then its the carb orfuel to the carb (if it has a fuel pump, that may be bad) if itdoesn't, check the spark (take the plug out and put it back in the bootand ground it to the engine and turn it over.... if it doesn't spark, try it without the kill wire to the ignition coil (this is under theflywheel), if it still doesn't, it could be the coil itself.. try a newplug though, old one could be fouled, its cheap to try anyway. If itdoes spark, still doesn't start... have the compression tested. Now ifit doesn't turn over at all, try and jump the solenoid posts. IT WILLSPARK so make sure you can't smell gas fumes, or have gas on you ornear you!!!, if she turns over (have the key in the start position) andstarts..., its more then likely the solenoids bad.... cheap toreplace..... keep in mind the engine has to spin atleast around 400rpm. If its doing it really slow, it won't start... and could be a badstarter (should be able to be rebuilt) or the starter gear could beworn out, or the ring gear in the flywheel (some are plastic), or itsjust not engaging..... also 200 is the bare minimum I'd use in amower... the highest cranking amp Lawn&Garden battery you can putin it should be used to insure good starts.
Disconnect the spark plug so the machinedoesn't accidentally start. Check the undercarriage. If the riding lawnmower is missing a flywheel key, it won't start. Also check the bladeshaft. If it is bent, replace it.

  • Step 6 Lookfor bent blades and a clogged deck in the undercarriage. Clean theblades and sharpen them if necessary. Remove any debris with a longscrewdriver. Replace the blades and tighten them securely

My wife put a small bottle of 2 cycle oil directly in the gas tank of my Weedeater edger and then added gasoline. Bless her heart she tried to help me out. Emptied the tank and refilled it correctly but...

Take the air filter off and make sure it is not soaked with oil. Leave if off. Get some carburetor/choke cleaner and have someone spray it into the carburetor throat while you are pulling the starter. You may have to open the choke to do this. You may also need to pull the spark plug and clean it if it is oil fouled. Hopefully, no real damage has been down and the machine will eventually start.

Kia ora, i have a makita 2 stroke grass cutter, that just wont start, checked, spark plug, fuel, took it apart and cleaned it..still wont start. Please help, it does not have model number only product...

Engines need 4 things: Spark, compression, fuel, exhaust

    1) Does spark plug have spark?
Take out plug, put plug wire back on plug, hold plug threads against metal part of engine, pull cord, do you see spark between plug and engine?

    2) While spark plug is out, put finger over hole and pull cord. Do you feel suction that shows compression?

    3) What about the exhaust port? Is the screen blocked with carbon deposits and dirt? Soak it in WD-40.

    4) Do you have 2-cycle oil in gasoline? Do you have fresh gas? Did you leave gasoline in tank for several months? Is the carburetor clogged with gum?

    5) What about the air filter? Does it fire up without air filter? Will it fire if you spray WD-40 into carburetor? Can you keep it going while spraying WD-40 into carburetor?
If it fires with WD-40 but won't keep going on it's own, then the gas is not getting to carburetor or carburetor is clogged with gum.

Starts dificult; runs for 30 sec then shuts off abruptly

    RECOMENDATIONS:

-Drain all fuel from the Saws fuel tank.
-Remove and REPLACE with a NEW spark plug.
-Remove and RELPACE with a NEW Air filter.
-With spark plug and air filter removed and fuel drained pull the starting cord many times 12 or so to ensure there is no fuel in the chamber and also check for a spark at the plug.
-RE-MIX WITH NEW FUEL your 2 cycle oil to the correct ratio in a clean fuel can. it is OK to dump some in the Saws fuel tank slosh around and dump out in an approved container for disposal.
-Hold off on putting back on the air filter until you have had it running.

    Hope this Tip Helps.

No spark to plugs affter long storage. Don't have

There will not be any spark to the plugs unless the engine is running, or you are manually pulling on the rope.

Go to any auto parts store and get a can of starter fluid, a new spark plug and a new air filter. Pour out the old fuel and mix up a new batch. While at the store also get a small bottle of homelite 2 cycle oil to mix with the gasoline.

Install the new plug and pour in the new fuel mix. Leave the air filter off and squirt some starter fluid into the air intake as you pull the starter rope. It helps to have this be a two person job.

    Homelite won't start

You may consider installing a new spark plug. 2-cycle engines foul plugs pretty regular. I'm guessing you are using old gasoline??
