Question about Dyson DC07 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

1 Answer

My Dyson just stopped sucking up dirt. I have checked all the obvious things like clogs and filters. I noticed when I turn it on, there is a valve on the top of the cannister that opens and you can feel suction from the vent hole. Is this valve malfunctioning, or is it working correctly because something else is malfunctioning?

Your cyclones could be clogged. You can clean them yourself pretty easily. See this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OO3ugkyzxk

My Dyson DC40 Animal sounds like it's running on half power. I've only had it one day and it seemed great considering it was sucking up an incredible amount of half/dirt. I took the canister to empty it,...

I would recommend you check the gaskets and make sure they are all connected properly so the vacuum doesn't lose suction. Also, check the filters. If they get too dirty the vacuum will lose suction.

You could check out Dyson's site: dyson.com/support.aspx

Hope that helps.

My dyson 24 ball stopped sucking up

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

If the dust cup is too full, there is no space for the dirt to go when you are vacuuming. To fix this, remove the dust cup and empty the it. If your vacuum is still not picking up dirt after emptying the dust cup, there may be something blocking the airway. There are two places where you can check for a blockage: the dust cup air duct and the intake opening behind the brush roll. To check for a blockage in the dust cup air duct stand the vacuum upright and remove the dust cup. Now you can disconnect the super stretch hose and check for clogs in the air duct behind the dust cup. If that is not the case, to check for a clog near the roller brush lay the vacuum down. Next check the opening behind the brush roll for clogs. If there is debris, clean the opening with scissors, carefully cutting away any debris.
Uncleaned filters may also the reason why your vacuum has lost suction. To clean the foam and felt filters, remove the dust cup and pull out the two filters that are on the top of the motor base. Rinse the filters with lukewarm water until the water is running clear. Let the filters dry fully before putting them back into the vacuum. If your vacuum is still not picking up dirt, you may need to replace it.
Unfortunately, if none of the other solutions worked, your motor is going bad. Most of the time a new motor costs as much as the vacuum itself and it is not easy to replace the motor. It may be time for a new vacuum.

It stopped sucking @ brush stopped turning

Usually on this vacuum those two problems are not related, but if you got a lot of stuff stuck in the brushroll and in the suction tube at the same time it could happen. Check the belt to make sure it's not broken. If the vacuum is over a year old the belt should probably be replaced anyway, this can be expensive on some Dyson models. The first thing to check on suction is the filters. Most Dysons have two filters. The motor filter should be cleaned and thoroughly dried after each use. The exhaust filter should be replaced frequently, for most people once a year should do. If you do not clean and replace the filters often enough the suction will keep going down and down until there is not enough airflow to propel the dirt and debris through the vacuum into the dirt cup and it ends up getting stuck and clogging up the vacuum which can lead to expensive repairs.

My Dyson Absolute is sucking, but NOT near at the strength that it used to. I have looked for clogs and have found none.

which dyson is it? if its a DC17 check the large bottom seal in the bottom of the canister and let me know if it has lifted up. you can tell when you close the bottom lid the inner seal will be pinched or there will be a gap. if that has happened then alot of dirt has passed through the motor and the hepa filter is probably completely clogged.
Is the brushroll spinning? does it stop if you put your hand on it? be very careful tho they have such aggressive aggitation when the belts are good that you could possibly hurt your fingers if you get them caught.

Dyson has stopped sucking and it does not swirl in the transparent part when swithed on

Hi there, to put your mind at rest, the dirt in the bin doesn't always spin round.

If the bin is filling and the machine appears to be picking up as normal then you have nothing to worry about.

However if you have noticed that the performance has dropped we would recommend checking your vacuum cleaner for blockages and washing the pre filter. Full details on this can be found in your user guide or in the Support section on our website at www.dyson.com.

Not sucking up
Posted by Smudge935 on May 02, 2008
Hi, I have a Dyson DC05 and initially it sucks up ok then stops. On investigation the dust particles are ending up in the pre-motor filter instead of the canister.
I have checked for blockages, and cleaned filters. Any ideas????

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
Something is blocking the path of the dirt to the canister and it should not be going directly to the motor filter (diverter valve) that is supposed to be a backup just in case. So that the motor does not burn up, please check with you local vacuum cleaner dealer for a schematic or a product breakdown.

So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
