Question about Dell Latitude D410 Notebook

Laptop shut down error

As laptop is shutting down, I am getting error message following the Windows is shutting down message:

Instruction at ____ reference number at _____, the memory would not be "written". Select OK to terminate the program.

After brief pause, the computer shuts down whether or not I click OK. So far have had no other issues with laptop. All applications have been closed before starting shutdown. Am running Windows XP. I recently ran error-checking along with disk cleanup and defrag with no problems identified. This started about a week ago.

Any help resolving is welcome.

The DDR2 RAM memory has failed and must be replaced.
You can get a new one from here

Did take my laptop to the "doctor" who naturally did further testing (I just upgraded the DDR2 RAM in Feb). Here is his resolution: "Retest of RAM... Verified Good... Tracked down error msg.. Related to McAfee.. Disabled McAfee Network Agent is diabled, and shutdown error msg is gone.. An update from McAfee that resolves this should be forthcoming at some point"

Has been two days and so far so good... except nervous that a bit of McAfee is disabled and now need to take action on that.

Hi, I have a laptop Compaq A945 US with Windows 7 installed in it. I am facing a serious problem these days as my laptop shut down automatically while doing my work. It happens after 10-15 min on first...

dear..
i think you should re-install your laptop, maybe the system has an error because some files are missing, it can be happens because of viruses, to re- format your os you can click one time restore..just turn on or reboot your laptop and quickly press f11 button on your keyboard, but no data will save when you do this, so you need to back up your data first, so you don't lose your work..
if one click restore couldn't be done, you need to prepare a bootable windows cd. to install windows from cd you need to change your boot set up, press f1 when you turn on your laptop, go to boot menu change your first boot to cd room and the second boot to hard drive, enter the windows cd, press save and exit, when appear a message "boot from cd or dvd" quickly press any key, then you can follow the instruction that appears on your screen..

The partition D is actually a back up partition that has factory image for the original Operating system that was installed in the computer.
factory recovery ( DATA LOSS )
if the computer is booting to windows, then click start and open a folder named as 'acer' listed in ' all programs '.You will find the ' Acer e-recovery managent ' in that folder. You can open it and click allow for the user account controls. Please click 'restore ' for the next screen and the select the first option, 'completely restore to factory defaults '.Follow the on screen instruction to initiate the Recovery.
The Alternate method for starting the Recovery on startup is using the combination of ALT+F10 ( some models its ALTgr ) on startup.Press and Hold down the ALT( Left hand of space ) and at the same time keep on tapping the F10 key till you get the message " Windows is loading files".Just follow the On screen Instructions to start the Recovery.

Can't reload windows xp. Keeps shutting down???? Acer 2700 Laptop

this happens when you have errors with the hard drive not responding to the new boot or drivers not responding. is this a clean install or a restore? if you are not using the original xp disk the machine came with you may get these errors. the blue screen usually has a message in it. let me know what it says if you get a second.

Usually when it shuts down for no reason it is overheating. Very common. There error happens when windows doesn't do everything the normal way when it shuts down such as save all your settings and so on. When it restarts it finds an error and you get that message. Again very common.

With your hand feel the bottom of the latop. If it feels hot not just slightly warm thats your problem. You need to have the cooling fan and passages cleaned out. You can use compressed air or a vacuum to do this. It takes very little dust on some models to make them overheat. If you have pets or use gas to heat your house or use the laptop near the kitchen you may have to do this about twice a year.

Toshiba satellite m40 booting problem.

Hi! It appears that possibly your hrad drive isn't set properly in the caddy? with the laptop powered down and disconnected locate the hard drive cover pop out the two locating screws and carefully move the caddy/hard drive BEWARE as the drive has fragile pins at the opposite end where you opened, hopefully little sliding pressure should remove. Check the retaining screws around the caddy (You'll need a small torx/philips screw driver for this) if all tight replace gently.
If you are uncertain I would recommend a technician check it for you.
Good Luck!

ERROR MESSAGE READS...

There seems to be some corruption on the hard drive. You need to boot up the laptop from the Windows installation cd. Once "Setup" has started, you need to look for the option "Recovery Console". Once loaded you may get asked which installation you want to log onto. Type in 1 and press Enter. Then type the following: CHKDSK /P and press Enter. This will run a checkdisk and more than likely report that it has fixed some errors on the drive. Now type EXIT and press enter. The system should now reboot, remember to remove the Windows installation cd. If this fails, you may have to take the laptop to an authorised dealer.
