Try booting into Safe Mode and adjusting your video settings. To boot to Safe Mode press F8 a couple of times when the computer finishes the self-test and is just about to start loading Windows.

Hopefully you are getting your latest graphics driver and Catalyst Control from AMD. If you know how to do a custom uninstall of VGA and Catalyst, then a custom install of VGA and Catalyst;

You should really try to limit switching the cables and definately do your switching with system off or you will mess up your resolution. If you can use your existing HDMI cable for your PS3, you can get an ATI HDMI to DVI adaptor and you will get the sound also out of your DVI output. The connector is $5.00 and you will need an additional HDMI cable. This will be your best bet especially if you have more than 1 HDMI input on your tv. I am absolutely positive this will work for you. You can get the adaptor here #6141054300G;

Had the same problem too... It's because it's set to underscan. To remove the black border, right click desktop and click Catalyst Control Center. Click the Graphics tab on the upper left portion of the Catalyst and choose desktop and displays. Right click the picture of the monitor at the lower part of the screen and choose Configure. At that screen, Click the 'Scaling Options' tab and move the slider all the way right to Overscan.

Try setting your color depth to 16 bit first then 1600 X 900 and try a reboot to see if it stays. Use only the windows display manager to do this, not the catalyst control. If the resolutions stays you can try setting it back to 32 bit and saving. The true max settings will appear in your windows display manager, and not always in third party display management software.
Trust that before you trust Catalyst or magictune.
Remember not to force the resolution above what windows considers safe, even if you know the monitor can handle it. Also bear in mind that Win7 is not fully ready for some things yet, even if Microsoft says it is.
I never trust a new Microsoft OS to be fully compatible with anything, no matter what the press statements report. So far this has kept me from destroying many components that may have otherwise become damaged or corrupted.

This issue is weird, I don't know if the monitor you bought is new or not, or is there any changes done in the computer prior to that issue. The only thing I could think of is there might be an incompatibility issue with the video card to the monitor you are using. I don't know if they have the same brand and model but if not, most probably that the monitor is not compatible to the video card.

Resolution won't fit entire screen on the 24.6'' Hannspree HF257

I'm not sure if the setting is the same everywhere but update to latest 9.11 catalyst drivers (im using win7 64bit so if its here its gotta be in everything lol)

1. Open Catalyst Control Center
2. Click Desktop & Displays
3. Near bottom of screen click the down arrow of your monitor (for me it was #1
4. Click Configure
5. goto Scaling Options tab
6. Set scaling options to 0%

This annoyed me for a little while until i realized it had to be driver related because it worked perfectly for a short while but if a game opened up outside of 1920x1080 resolution it wouldn't display properly until a reboot. It fit the screen fine at 1680x1050 because for some reason the scaling was shaving ~15% of the screen displayed for some reason.

Wish you the best of luck :)

How can I make fonts look good in an LCD monitor ?

The VGA connection should be fine; I have DVI and when I switched from analog, the difference was pretty minimal, to my eyes.

Is it just the fonts that are blurry, or everything? If fonts only, then this almost certainly suggests that running the ClearType tuner again would solve the problem. But this applies to all displays, so if one is good and the other is not, then this isn't it.

If everything is a little blurry, then this suggests one of two problems -- the first, you report trying, which is that the display adapter is set to a different resolution than the native resolution of the LCD monitor itself. Your display adapter should probably be able to drive 2 monitors (the built-in laptop monitor and the external monitor) at once. You should be able to set their resolutions separately.

Assuming Windows XP: Start > Control Panel > Display > Settings > at which point, you should see two monitors listed in a dropdown. Set them to their native resolutions there (using the slider bar, usually all the way to the right), and save.

If you do have the display resolutions set to their native resolutions for both monitors, then it's possible that your external monitor is messed up. A quick test would be to run the on-screen settings, usually from a button on the monitor itself. If what is displayed there is sharp and what is displayed from Windows is not, then this points to a problem with the display driver. If everything, even the on-screen display is blurry, then perhaps the monitor settings are messed up -- usually there's an option to restore to factory settings -- try that.

If that doesn't work, I'm probably out of ideas, unless you have further information.

Regarding L1515S 15" LCD Monitor Resolution

Hello mallik, The LCD monitor is actually a active matrix of small transistors (3 for each pixel). They have one native resolution, a FIXED one for example you monitor has 1024 x 768 pixels. This results in 786432 pixels displayed on the screen. Because each pixel is controlled by 3 transistors there will be 2359296 transistors controlling your entire screen. This is a fix number. You can't raise the resolution to 1280 x 1024 because this will require as you can see now... a lot more transistors on the same surface. All you can do is to lower the resolution, in this case 4 pixels (12 transistors) form a larger pixel acording to that lower resolution. The image can look blurry in these situations. THe bottom ideea is that a LCD pannel (more corectly said, TFT (thin transistor film) pannel, has one optimum resolution, it's native one. The higher the better, when choosing one to buy, but you can't raise the resolution over that. You can just lower it. It works different then the normal conventional CRT monitors. Sorry for my bad english as I live in a non english-speaking country. Also if you have anymore questions please post a comment.
