Question about Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2
Well you can backup the system simply with the system state. However some files will be ignored. So what you have to do is to "Clone" the disk. That is the easiest way.
Most of the Disk Cloning Software are commercial and not for free.
But there are a few.
You can use this product.
This runs on Windows (win32).
Download and install it. It has a Graphical User Interface with the necessary options. The image is bootable by default. It is fairly easy to get used with. Just plugin the HDD and back it up. Make sure you properly set the SATA as a slave. These settings can be accessed via boot options in BIOS. Use del,esc,F2 or F11 to jump in to BIOS settings before the system boots Windows. Hope you know the procedure. (Otherwise the System will be boot using the SATA drive instead of the IDE drive). Online manual for XXCLONE.
If you have any commercial product such as Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image you can use with a hassle. They are ideal for disk imaging. You have to purchase a key how ever. If you use a torrent downloader such as Utorrent, you can download with a key. But you cannot Register the key since they are used keys. So if you like to do that (we do not enforce piracy) download and use one of them. They are user friendly software and easy to coop with.

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive
Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA
the leads from your motherboard to your hard drive make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty
hope this helps
