Question about Mitsubishi WS-55613 55" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

Components only play in black & white

I bought a used medallion 1080 hd tv (WS 55615). The tv plays fine, but when I hook up a dvd player or game component, it only plays in black & white. The component jacks in the back have the red and white audio slots, but 3 different color ones for the video (none of which are yellow). I also tried the "input" jacks which are the typical red, white & yellow, but can't get anything to play through them.

3 different color jacks calls Component Video Input and jack color would be Red-Green-Blue. All 3 are used for video signal and it is necessary to plug all jacks with correspondence color in video source (dvd player etc) means red to red, green to green and blue to blue in both units.
2 more jacks red-white for audio in component video connection setup.

If you hook dvd player in Composite Video Input of tv (yellow-red-white) then make sure to select that input in tv.

Let me know if you have additional question.
Thanks.

Above are info about component video input.

If your dvd has only composite video output (yellow pin) then of course it will be hooked in yellow video input in tv.

What is model number and brand of your dvd player?

  • Joel Rappoport Jul 09, 2010

The dvd is an Emerson ewd 7003, but I've got the same problem with my Wii game system, which likewise comes with only red, white & yellow jacks, while the component slots in the rear of the tv call for 5 jacks 5 (2 audio, 3 video).

OK, did you tested your dvd player and wii game on any other tv just to confirm that both picture has color?

If both video source are good then tv video input has problem and signal board is suspected that need to be checked.

I did test my components on other tv's and they work. Before I accept that the tv has a video input problem, can you explain to me what the "input" jacks in the back of the tv are for (which only have the red, white & yellow), as opposed to the component jacks? When I hit the "Device" button on the front of the tv, options are available for Components 1 & 2, but not for the inputs 1 & 2.

OK, reset AV settings of tv to default factory settings so tv will show all inputs.

Press GUIDE and FORMAT on the front panel at the same time for few seconds to reset AV settings.

If you need user manual copy for this tv, click HERE to get free copy.

User manual has all operational info.

I finally got it working. I figured it had to be the input jacks and not the component jacks, since I only had res, white and yellow. Resetting the A/V (which I had already tried before) didn't bring up anything different under Devices, so I just tried DBS & VCR. One worked for the DVD and the other for the Wii.

Thanks for your support...the manual may yet come in handy.

The yellow/red/white cables are COMPOSITE cables. COMPONENT cables are RED/BLUE/GREEN. You can buy those at any electronics store. Your best bet, though, is to stick with HDMI if you can.

Vizio tv - plays fine and in color. hooked up phillips dvd player - all connectors connected correctly. when i play the dvd, it is only in black and white . . . not color. how can i get my dvd to play...

Which input on the TV and which output on the DVD player are you using? HDMI is the best and easiest. Next is standard video plus audio (3 leads, yellow - video, red and white - audio). If you are using the component input, you can get B&W if you have the leads incorrectly connected. If you're going from component to video in, you might have the same result, I'm not certain. I hope this helps you resolve your problem. Let us know.

My mitsubishi medallion hd 1080 doesn't show content from component cable

Some of the older Mitsubishi with HD 1080 have only one component input for HD---it is marked on rear as DTV----also a model number may allow me to give another suggestion--Some of these sets (ws, wt, vs models) will on occasion lock out or disable the input/s.

Depending on model number most also have 3 hidden menus---one is the option menu----it allows with the Mitsubishi remote via a 4 digit number (by model number) to enter there and do a hard reset of the set----sets every setting back to factory original---seen it "cure" all kinds of odd problems from missing rear inputs, no sound, odd video issues---you name it.

Get me the model number and I will see if can find the code for yours--you can also try hooking first direct a 1080 blue ray or Dvd if you want to see if the input is active or not first.

The VHS tapes will not playback on the Samsung TV (flat screen)..the Samsung TV is a Syncmaster 2333 HD...the Samsung dvd/vhs unit is a DVD-V9800 The DVD discs will play just fine. How should I be...

On these combo units, the VCR will not play using component cables but the dvd's will play just fine.

What you need to do is run a pair of composite (Yellow, red and white) cables and use that for VCR and component (Green, blue, red, white and red) for the dvd player.

Make sure you switch the tv to the corresponding input.

There is no colour on the movie

Make sure you have the cables hook up right. If you are running component mode it takes three for video blue red and white ends. If you are running composite it takes red, white, and yellow.

DVD plays only in black and white

Hey, I had this problem on Thanksgiving Day, trying to watch a dvd on my mother's HDTV. You should be able to hook up most standard dvd players to hdtvs. First you have 3 cords, mine were red, yellow, and white. The connections go as follows:

HDTV:
Audio| Component. The white cord should be in a white audio slot. The yellow cord should be in a yellow component slot (video) and the red cord should be in a red video component slot labeled Pr/Cr. Make sure you match the component numbers. For instance, if you want to use component one, then hook all of the cords into the slots for component one. Most hdtvs have multiple component hookups ( think multiple "channels" for your game system, dvd player, etc) so it's important that the corresponding cords go to the correct component slots.

DVD:
Match the yellow and white cords to the appropriately colored slots. The red cord should go into the slot labeled component video out Cr/Pr. Not the red audio out. This worked for me. Hope this helps.

Converting up to 1080

Hello. You have to use the HDMI port and connect to the HDMI, or DVI, port on the back of the TV to get 1080. Even if playing HDDVD, this cable is necessary to get the increase. That, and the TV has to be in 1080 too. If you look at the display, on the front of the player, while watching the DVD, it will tell you at what resolution the DVD is playing. The HDMI to HDMI/DVI must be installed to get the increase in resolution. I have a Panasonic HD 34" 1080i widescreen TV, with DVI connection. When connected, the player played my DVD's at 1080i on my TV, while at only 480i thru the composite cables.

On some older movies or series(I like Star Trek- TNG), it doesn't work well due to the transfer to the DVD. Most newer DVD's, such as Batman Begins (there is an HD out, but I have DVD only), improved on the upconvert for me nicely.
