Hi,
There are few possibilities for these thin green lines, we call it retrace lines.
Either screen (G2) volts are high for green picture tube or cathode volts (+200V) are missing on green crt base circuit board. And last is green picture tube got shorted internally.
In view of above info, you can decide to call tv repairman or do it yourself.
Let me know if you have additional question.
Thanks.

From what you are telling me this may be the voltage from the screen (G2) when I adjusted the green to get the lines out I want to say I turned to the right which would have increased the voltage? This makes sence because before I adjusted it the only problem was very faint green retrace lines when the screen was dark. I did adjust it until the lines dissapeard but maybe I went to far. I read that turning it too fast could damage the tube from the voltage what is the correct way to adjust and in what direction? Can I turn the green VR on the focus block all the way to the left and slowly move it to the right until I see the retrace line and then back to the left until the line goes away? My concern is not being able to see the voltage increase and the chance of messing up the tube? It sounds like this is a rough adjustment but to fine tune it I would need an oscilloscope to actually get it correct or do you think I could do this without the oscilloscope? Thanks for your help in this matter! Stumped in NC

Yes, that is better way to adjust G2 (screen) volts. No need of oscilloscope to adjust screen volts.

Please note that if screen volts are either less or over, tv could be shut down due to protection circuit activation and standby light will start blinking 5 times with 3 seconds long pause.

If screen volt control knob is all the way left (minimum) and green picture tube (CRT) still shows thin lines then focus block could be defective as its not controling screen volts properly.

    Thanks.

One more thing, I do not think that turning screen volt knob quickly can damage the picture tube. Screen volts are approx 1000V DC where as focus volts are approx 2500V and anode volts are approx 25000V, so picture tube has many volts on certain points.

Sony 57 in Rear Projection TV

If the picture is playing fine and you notice that the background is getting more and more red, until it is too red and the set shuts down, it could be that the red screen control is set just a bit too high. If this is the case, you can probably correct this yourself. If you are watching a perfect picture and then it suddenly flashes a very bright red, with thin red lines in the pictureand then shuts down, it usually means that the red picture tube has developed a short in it, between the cathode and heater. A good tech might be able to remove the short by arcing, but if the short persists then the red tube will have to be replaced. Either way, this is something that should only be done by a qualified tech.
