Replace the joint bushings. There is also an adjustment in the worm gear on the steering box.

Kia sportage 2003 power steering belt

There should be two bolts to loosen; one at the top front of the pump, the other at the rear of the pump running through the bracket. Loosen them and pull the power steering pump to take out the slack. DO NOT pry on the pump or you will damage it. when you have the slack out of the belt tighten the front bolt and then the rear one.

How do I remove the slack in the steering on a 1995 toyota 4runner

In rack and pinion steering, they are long and tube like to look at, the wear that takes place that causes play is the rack ends. You have to
take the boots off and unscrew the rack end, always fit new units .
With recirculating ball steering boxes, you adjust the end play on the sctor shaft on top of the box with the wheels up off the ground, make sure that there are no tight spots when you spin the steering wheel from lock to lock as you adjust the play out.

I have a 91 ford f150 and have a lot of slack in the steering it's seems to be in the gear box is there any way to repair or take the slack .

Many components in your front end can cause slack in your steering. ball joints, tie-rods, etc... Make sure that all these components are in good repair. THEN if you're confident that your steering box is faulty you can go to the site below and get one from them. They're known for building excellent steering boxes for ford trucks and broncos. I believe you will need to send them your core and they will send you back a remanufactured (better than oem) one.

My 1982 Chevrolet blazer power steering is too soft and not good in traveling a high speed, how can i adjust it to become a little bit harder?

There is no adjustment on the power steering pump.If you have slack or a lack of response most likely you have a worn part such as tie rod end or idler arm.Low pressure in the power steering would cause the steering to be stiff , mostly at low speed.The faster you go the less need there is for power steering,for example turn off the engine while sitting in the driveway and see how difficult the wheel is to turn.You cand jack up a front wheel and check for slack in the steering components by trying to move the tire side to side and back and fourth.Good Luck!

How do i adjust steering linkage so there isnt as much play in it

The only adjustment you can make would be the thrust bearing in the steering box. This is the bolt with the straight slot on top and it has a nut at the base. You would raise the front wheels to get the weight off, and then have an assistant move the steering wheel slightly left, slightly right. Unscrew the base nut and tighten the slotted stem bolt down until you get less slop in the steering gears.
There should be some play.

The tierod ends, both inner and outer should be tight. The threads you see on the rods are for Front-end Alignment only, and are not meant to tighten any slack. There should be no slack. You have a pivot arm on the opposite side of the frame from the steering box. The bushing in this arm can wear out, check for slack. It can be changed independently without affecting alignment.

Everyone has a method. Mine is to keep 1 wheel on the ground and jack the weight off the other so I can feel the play side to side. Remember to check your Balljoints while you do the linkage. It is possible to have 1 bad tierod end causing all the problems.

I have a 97 K1500 with some loose steering issues. I have replaced everything that has anything to do with steering except steering gear and powerstearing pump and it all helped a lot but it still seems to...

Have the front end alignment checked as it may the cause of wandering. With the truck parked and the steering centered, but the engine running, wiggle the steering wheel back and forth while watching the left front wheel. It should respond to the steering action without any observable slack. Have someone watch both front wheels while doing this and see if there is slack between the two wheels. Any slack here is indicative of slop in the cross-wheel coupling. Hope this helps!

The switch has to be replaced, the bulbs are not serviced seperately. On some of the vehicles, you could pull the the switch out far enough to access the connector and change it from the front, but be careful, if there is not enough slack in the harness, the steering wheel has to come off, along with the rear cover on the wheel, to get enough slack in the harness to remove the switches. This was a design change around 2004 or 2005.

On top of the steering gearbox, is a threaded stud that has a slot in the head of it, and a nut on that stud.

Make sure the wheels are straight. Use a large flat tip screwdriver for that stud, take an end wrench, and loosen the nut.

Screw the stud down 1/8 to 1/4 turn. Tighten the nut. Check the slack. If the steering is too tight, back it off. Too loose, tighten a little more.
Drive the vehicle a few blocks, check the steering out. Come back, and do adjustment some more if necessary.

It's a fine line between too tight, and removing slack. DO NOT drive it being too tight. Readjust until it's right.
If your vehicle is an '83 Jeep, it's 26 years old. The steering box may be worn out.

1986 S-10 stalls when making left turns only.

seems like you got the problem solved. could be a power steering problem. maybe the engine belt is too slack. tighten the belts. check all the belts. if power steering belt is slack and you turn the wheel should get hard and the vehicle shuts off.

I have slack in the steering of my 01 mustang gt. is there a way to take the slack out of the steering.

1.Check tie rod ends for slopp and check ball joints replace as needed.

2. If everything is okay then you need to replace the rack pinon which is highly unlikely it's bad.
