SOURCE: short from pedal to battery

I would replace the foot pedal switch like the one here http://www.shopjandl.com/mepu0001.html
if it goes in any speed then it is a problem with the switches in the shifter.
You also want to make sure the wires are secure on the foot switch and the motors because the can come loose when the children are riding them.
I would also contact J&L http://www.shopjandl.com/.
These guys know a lot about these peg perego gators and will make sure they help you.

Ranger on a full charge stops working within 5 minutes. After 3 minutes or so, it runs again. Is the battery fried? Or is it overheating? It is aprox 1 year old. It is being run on flat ground. Please help

If power stops abruptly then theres a chance there coul be a loose connection and needs investigting. If power winds down and stopsthen yes the battery is probley fried.

You didn't specify a brand or type but it sounds like a hydrostatic drive model and if so, it is 1 of 4 likely things

Drive belt from engine to transaxle slipping badly (replace the belt)
FWD-REV pedal linkage faulty
Transaxle is broken or has fluid issues (not user fixable)
by-pass rod (neutral lever/rod) is pulled out a bit. (push it in fully!)

Charge the battery up fully and see if it will start. I am betting that the battery was dead. when you get it started you are going to want to test and see if the motor is charging the battery. Use a volt meter and have the battery charged fully and start the engine. With the charger off the battery take the volt meter and touch the + with the red lead and the - with the black lead. At idel you should have 13.6 volt of higher but no more than 14.2 Now rev the motor up to 3000 rpm and the volt meter should jump up as you rev it. If it does not then the reg/rec is bad or the stator went bad.

Roomba cuts off after a minute or so.

If you have a 400 series Roomba, try removing the battery, then holding down the power button for ten seconds, then recharging the unit before you run it again.

If you have a 500 series Roomba, don't take out the battery-- just press and hold the "spot" and "dock" buttons for about fifteen seconds. The Roomba will play a tune, and you can then charge it and try running it again later.

in fact only turned over once befors starter was clicking away. Pushed it home tried again - nothing. Put battery on charger - charged up in 15 minutes - tried to start - engine turned over couple of times then click click click at starter been out this morning checked all connections and earths - charged battery up - read 13.22v when full charge light came on, tried to start up - turned over several times, getting slowwr then click click. Checked battery reading 12.17v Any suggestions - is it the battery or what else?,The fact that the voltage drops as the revs increase is very odd. However, the dash voltmeter which I assume you are using is often inaccurate. Try an alternative battery, at least to see if it starts. You could use a car battery with jump leads. With a decent battery the charging might improve too.,,,
