Packard Bell Easynote M5255 - Will not boot up

My Easynote M5255 laptop will not boot up... All I get is a flashing curser on the top left of the screen... The initial page comes up with options for F2 to enter BIOS setup or F10 for network boot ... neither work.... F8 gives me the option to choose boot device... I tried booting from a bootable cd but system doesn't see it (no light appears on CD indicator) ... HDD appears to be spinning but no errors are displayed ... just the curser on top left of screen.... Any ideas thanks ... Martin

The problem is that I am unable to go into the bios setup to do just what you suggest. When I choose option f2 nothing happens. f8 however takes me to a bootup menu after appearing to detect the drives available if I then select boot from HDD nothing happens ... screen just clears and leaves me with cursor flashing in top left corner.

Option f2, go into bios setup and see if the hard drive is listed or detected. Auto detect hard drive save and exit. System will reboot if the same error occurs then the hard drive master boot record is probably corrupt or the hard drive has totally failed.

The battery died when the power adaptor was plugged in. The light to show the battery was being charged was not lit but the light on the power supply was. I am guessing its the battery. I have had some...

Just check the Battery diagnostics if you have the software installed...If it is there then it will be in Start - Help & Support - Troubleshotting Tools - Battery Check.......If it shows the battery needs to be replaced contact Packard Bell...Since you told me that the A/C Adapter is not functioning and after you wiggled the lead it started functioning then if the battery test passes you will have to ask for a new A/C Adapter...
