Compatability issue I have CreataCard Platinum 8 and have changed to Windows 7 OS. The CD shows Windows 98//2000;/Me/XP. When I checked the Windows 7 compatabiity website, it showed no information, working on solution with manufacturer. Is there an upgrade or patch available to make it compatible?

Thank you. I followed your instructions re installing program in Windows 7 (which was not an upgrade but came on my new computer). After that I tried to install the program and got a message that the software has compatability issue with drivers and I should contact the vendor (Broderbund) to obtain compatible drivers. I followed the link to their website but could not find info regarding what drivers to install. Any further suggestions?

Thank you. This worked for the CreataCard program. I'm having a problem with an installed program: HP Photosmart Essential 3.5 will not allow me to create an account and will not recognize my sign-in as a Snapfish member. I tried changing to run as mod XP v3 but it did not work for this program. Any other solutions?

Hi,

How to install an XP/Vista program on Windows 7

First of all locate the setup or installer file, this will be either in the contents of a CD/DVD (you have to explore the contents of the CD/DVD) under the name "setup" or a downloaded .exe (executable) file.

Right click on the setup file and select "Properties" from the sub menu.

A Properties windows will appear on screen, click on the "Compatibility" tab.
At the bottom of the tab you will see the header "Privilege Level".

Check the box that says "Run this program as an administrator"

Also at the top of the Compatibility tab you will see "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
Check that box and if you have the option select Windows XP (service pack 3).

Click Apply and then OK and install your program.

NOTE: if you have upgraded from Vista Windows XP mode may not be available depending on how you system was configured.

How to run an installed program on Windows 7

Some programs will install but they won't run on Windows 7. Again this down to compatibility but unlike Vista, Windows 7 has the compatibility mode working down to a tee.

Locate the desktop icon or the program in "All Programs" from the Start Menu or Orb as it's affectionately known today.

Just as in my tip about installing a program it is just the same.

Regards.

    Hi,

Sometimes you do get that message with Win 7 and believe it or not some programs will still run even with the compatibility issue message given.
You should have also got a message box asking if the program installed correctly. If you just choose that it did and try and use the program, see how it goes.

Like i said in my previous post some programs just won't work properly at all because they have been designed around the XP operating system.

Its a case of try and see i'm afraid.

    Regards.

I run win7Pro & AG CreataCard Platinum 8 will not install..is my favorite card making program for family & friends, any help appreciated.

CreataCard Platinum 8 was written for XP and older versions of Windows. Changes in the OS make it difficult/impossible to install.

Do you have the 32-bit or the 64-bit version of Win7Pro? Click Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System. If the title reads Windows 7 Professional x64, it's the 64-bit version. (If it doesn't end with the x64, you have the 32-bit version.)

In any case, the best option is to try running an older version of Windows on another machine, a dual boot system or a virtual computer. With the Pro version of Win7, you can run a virtual XP for free (if your hardware can support it). Download and install Virtual PC and the XP mode package from Microsoft. (You'll need to set aside some memory for the virtual PC to run.) Then install CreataCard when running XP mode as if this is your only computer.

The only real problem is that you will not be able to have hardware installed on the virtual XP and the Windows 7 real machine at the same time. (So you can't share a printer.) Also, to share files between the two "systems", you will need to save them to external media (flash drive or optical disc, for example). Your motherboard and CPU need to support Virtualization. You have to turn this on in your BIOS on some systems. (Press Esc, F1, F2 or F10 repeatedly depending on your system right after turning on the system. If you miss the timing, shut down the computer and then retry.)

Other virtualization programs are Parallels and VMWare. However, with those programs and the other possible options for running CreataCard, you need a licensed version of the older version of Windows.

If you have the 32-bit version of Windows, you can try the Compatibility Mode. (Right click on the installer and choose Properties. Then click on the Compatibility tab and select Run the program as compatible with an older version of Windows. Apply the changes and click OK. Then right click on the installer again and choose Run As Administrator.) You may have to repeat this on the program icon after installing. However, the compatibility mode doesn't always work even if you have the 32-bit OS (and thus don't need the signed driver).

An alternative is to upgrade your software to one that is Win7 compatible. I'm not sure which of these Broderbund design and print products are most similar to CreataCard: http://www.broderbund.com/c-6-design-print.aspx . However, you will probably not be able to open old documents.

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(XP mode is available with Win7Pro and Ultimate. At my house, we have two computers with Win7Pro with one running XP mode. At least once, the virtualization was turned off during a BIOS update and XP mode failed until the setting was corrected.)

My mom will only use CreataCard Gold 3 but uses Windows 7. How can she still keep using it?

Does the software install properly in Windows 7? If you are having installation problem then you can try running the installer (most of the time it is "setup.exe") in "compatibility mode".
To run a program in comparability mode right click on the executable (i.e "setup.exe") and select "properties" then click on the "Compatibility" tab. In the "Compatibility" tab select the check mark next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" option then from the pull down menu select "Windows XP (Service Pack 2 or 3)".

After installing the program if you run into issues while using the program then use the same steps to run the program in Windows XP compatibility mode.

Is there a Creatacard CD compatible for Windows 7?

Creatacard cannot be run under Windows 7 because of compatibility issues. You have to right click on the executable file that will start the application and click Properties. Select Compatibility tab and check the Windows version you know the program worked with before. You can find more about this Compatibility issue on Microsoft website http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows-vista/Make-older-programs-run-in-this-version-of-Windows

Try setting in compatibility Mode, for XP SP2, and run the main .exe, as administrator, that may help.

If this is a new install from a new purchase, always give the manufacturer a call because they should know what it is compatable with and walk you thru most common problems.
