One of two solutions to try

First, hold back arrow button and up on the touch pad (non-touch screen version) until it resets, then try to sync again.

If no go...

Next, connect the device to a true 2.0 usb port, try not to use any usb ports on your monitor or keyboard, connect the Zune directly to your PC and then try.

Lastly, not a troubleshooting steps per se, but try a different Zune cable as the 1st generation cables are thin, slow, and are easily damaged.

Hope this helps!

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

As a last resort or if you are receiving error code C00D2772, erase the device, and then sync your content again. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start the Zune software on the computer.
  2. Connect your Zune device by using the Zune Sync Cable.
  3. Click Settings, and then click device.
  4. Click SYNC OPTIONS, and then click ERASE ALL CONTENT.
  5. When you receive the following message, click Yes: Please Confirm. Are you sure you want to erase the contents of the connected Zune? You receive the "Erase All Content" message. This may take several minutes. Do not move or disconnect the Zune device until the message disappears.

One last ditch effort: Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.

And, yeah, as far as the international replacement - that is how all the manufacturers are - they are not willing to pay the cost to keep their customers. Also, they have no process in place for fulfilling such a request, even if they have offices in both countries (which most of them do). Sad, really.
