Have you got the correct sound drivers installed? Does the computer have built-in speakers? (My old computer didn't, and I spent ages trying to get the sound to work when all I needed was a plug-in speaker :P). Does it have a sound card? You may have to put one in yourself. Just look for simple things like this, and if all else fails, Google! :la:

Been having RUNDLL ERROR on start up for last 2 days, PC running slightly slower, but just now LOST ALL SOUND!!! HELP!

Rundl errors refer to windows starup files, its seems that for some reason the computer cant see a particular file one way to solve this problem is to reset your computer to an earler date, this will also bring your sound back.

first try using windows system restore, which makes windows appear like it did before your problem. do this sequence: start-all programs-accessories-system tools-system restore. run it and look for a calendar date before your problem. If you had system restore turned off, the solution may be long and painful and I simply do not have enough info to get you started in this case, other than to attempt a re-installation of windows XP.
