The amber light verifies your monitor is connected to primary power. The internal power supply is dead, otherwise the amber light would change color when the switch was operated.

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed DELL monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

After changing old model monitor for Samsung SyncMaster 740N 17'' inch model monitor it doesn't display at all, only amber light dims intermittent.

First, try it on another PC first.
Second, the video resolution of your PC should be set to 1280 x 1024 @60Hertz.
Unless it has problem inside, then you will need to open it up.

Acer v193w monitor screen is black, and an amber light is flashing. How do is fix it?

The blinking Amber light can mean two things, one is that the monitor is not getting the video signal from your PC, or it can be problem in the monitor power supply due to bad caps. Please try it on another PC first before opening up the monitor. If is it the monitor then read below so you can make up your mind if you want to DIY or not.

The monitor shows a black screen but the green

Yes, there is internal main AC fuse, which should be OK because you can see the indicator light, you need to open it up and check for caps with bulging tops first, post back what you see so we can guide you further, see example of failed monitors due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

All dead except for flashing amber light.

Hello,

You have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitors will blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts called capacitors overheating in the confined space of he monitor. If you are good at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix he problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm You can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad parts, replace any that look like the pictures and your monitor should work fine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and - connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new one the same way. If you don't want to try the repair yourself we offer a repair service for $35 plus shipping. I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.
