Question about Dell Dimension 9100 PC Desktop
My computer software problem is the following: 1) I turn on the tower 2) my computer screen brings up a black screen with the following:
Type the system password and press
I do not know the password but I attempt one that I think. It then reads:
Number of unsuccessful password attempts: 7 or more
System halted! Must power down.
Help please! Denise
You have to clear the CMOS to clear all power on passwords.
With the computer facing you remove the power cord and then take of the left hand side panel of the tower to expose the motherboard.
Look near the bottom right of the motherboard for the BIOS battery. It looks like this >>>>>
Remove this battery for about 20 minutes periodically hitting the on/off switch to dispel any residual power from the motherboard. This will clear the CMOS for you.
After 20 mins is up put the battery back in and put the side panel back on.
Turn on the computer and it should boot to the operating system.
Remember to set the year, date and time as these will be reset.
