Sounds like possibly a fuel problem. If you can, remove the brass bolt holding the carburetor bowl onto the lower part of the carb. Be careful as there is an exterior washer around that bolt outside the bowl and an interior gasket around the top of the bowl where it mates against the main carb body. Inspect this bolt carefully (after cleaning out bowl) for there are small holes at the bottom and along the smooth part above the threads. This is the MAIN JET for the carb and these very small holes have to be clear for the carb to operate correctly and give the engine the fuel it needs.

mine is new (4months old), the gas is clean, it stills stalls out. Its still under warranty. It only runs for 15 minutes.

I see. Can you contact the seller about putting the machine in the shop for possible diagnosis and repair? Is that an option under the warranty on this machine?

We plan on taking it back this week...this will be the second time back for this same issue. If this mower was a car, it be classified as a "lemon". Even attempting to restart after 15 minutes, 30 minutes, and 3 hours...no start. But it'll probably work OK for the dealer again. I don't see a saftey kill switch on the catch bag door, or a switch anywhere that gopped up with grass clippings. Thats a problem on my leaf vacuum, but its easy to spot and clean. Since its under warranty, I havrn't attempted to disassemble the covers or the carb. The problem acts as it is electrical or electronic in nature. I'll check for a spark Monday with a glow tube in series with the ignition wire.

With a machine this new, I would have to agree with you on there being some type of electrical problem. I'm very curious as I usually deal with equipment with some age on them. What did they indicate was wrong the first time you took the mower in under warranty? Oh..I get it..it worked ok when you took it to the dealer the first time. What a nightmare...like the boy that cried wolf right..and they are like...We don't know what you're talking about...everythings fine with this machine (RIGHT??). Post back if you like on what the darn problem is.

Remove spark plug. Pull rope several times to blow out cylinder. Spray WD 40 in spark plug hole. Pull rope several times. ensure compression is present. Replace spark plug with new one. Spray starting fluid in cylinder before replacing spark plug. Ensure plug wires snaps on tight. Check oil level, fill with 30w oil if required. All mowers have a low oil start cutoff. I have a briggs and stratton 158cc yard machine mower. I need to replace the spark plug and the air filter but I dont know what kind or size of spark plug I need nor do I know anything about hte air...

A champion cj 8 plug will work fine. As far as air filter it is probably a paper on, take the old one to a dealer or small engine repair shop and they can match it up for ya.

Lawn Mower will not stay running then will not restart

I think we all understand the frustation penaone.
I noticed u didn't clean the fuel tank, water, dirt, and rust in it can give u problems. But u need to clean the lines and carb. again also. One of the kids filled my mower gas tank with driveway gravel once, and after I cleaned things out, the mower never run so good. Also your spark may be grounding out somewhere before it gets to the spark plug. Check for a bad spot in the wires from the magneto. Some of that may be behind the flywheel though.

I have a Craftsman 650 series lawn mower. It starts but sputters and smokes and finally dies. I replaced the spark plug and checked the oil but it did not help. What do I need to do now??

I have a similar issue in that my Craftsman 650 in that it sputters and smokes out of the muffler and spits oil out from there as well. It does not die, but I cannot operate the lawn mower with all the smoke and oil blowing out. Plus, I get oil leakage on the deck of the lawn mower (top). What would I check for here?

Motor runs for 5-10 min. then starts missing and quits.

Check your spark first,if you do not have spark your problem is the coils-if you do have spark the problem probaly lies withone of your valves getting stuck after getting hot and soonas it cools down a little it closes and then you can restart it till it gets hot again.Hope this helps

Nannie what can be wrong with my power devil petrol lawn mower the engine wont keep running then cuts out petrol and oil ok

Check air filter, check screen in bottom of fuel tank,
New spark plug and also check the spark.
If there is a weak spark, the coil may need to be replaced.

If you have good spark, clean air filter, and clean fuel tank screen, then the carberator will need to be pulled of and cleaned out with solvent

Poulan 6.75 Lawn mower will not start

Remove spark plug, clean and dry. Replace plug. Remove air filter. Spray WD-40 into carb opening; one second blast. Turn over engine, (pull handle). Engine should start briefly and run for 3 seconds.  If not, you are not getting spark to spark plug. If engine starts, you have a dirty carb and you can buy a rebuild kit from manufacture.

Toro SR4 Running problem when hot

It can be quite a things - a blocked air filter or a blocked exhaust. To clean the exhaust, unbolt it from the manifold, hold it vertical and hit on the side until no more soot comes out. Changing the air filter should be pretty straightforward. If the spark plug bottom end is black then you have the fuel mixture too rich and you should lessen the flow of fuel.
