Question about Amana ALW540RA Top Load Washer
I have an Amana LWD35AW top loader Washer, and the helix and the spin pulley are slipping causing a loud banging and the inner tub will not spin. Also the input shaft seems to have some up and down travel. Any ideas on what the problem is and how to fix.

SOURCE: Irregular banging during cycle
these washers are a swine to dis-assemble and i would not recommend it unless you are experienced. on most indesit, the bearings are in a spider bolted to the outside of the tub. take the back off and see if you can localise the noise to the bearings worthwhile also taking the heater out (one nut in the middle), peer in and check no foreign object causing the noise

YOU MIGHT WANT TO TGRY TO PAY ATTENTION WHEN YOU LOAD THE CLOTHES IN. TRY TO LAYER THEM LIKE A CAKE AND NOT JUST TROW THEM IN. I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM

You said, You just found out my machine is leaking underneath somewhere and you haven't taken it apart yet. Any suggestions or ideas?
How old is the machine?
How much water leaks and when?
It usually is a leak in or around the drain hose.
I've seen a clamp vibrate loose near the pump.
You should be able to find it!
Let me know. Huuum

SOURCE: won't drain or spin
Sounds like the lid switch which is only about 30.00 to fix if you do it yourself. It's a little difficult but it's much better than replacing or having someone come in and do it

SOURCE: Washing machine shaft wont move
how do you remove the pulley from the shaft on a amana washer. the pulley drops down, but it is blocked by the bracket and can not remove the pulley, because the bracket wont move down at all after removing the screws
