Question about Whirlpool Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

We have a Whirlpool Gold Accubake stove. The stove top elements work, however none of the controls do and we can't get the oven to turn on. It doesn't appear locked (no lit "lock" icon), but the PF light is on permanently and nothing I do seems to clear it. The unit is in a relatively new condo that doesn't get used much, so we turn off the power when not occupied. Any suggestions on getting the oven to function?

Either have a bad touchpad or control here. Only way to tell which is with a meter.

From investigation, I would open the control panel (make sure the power is turned off first!) Look for a ribbon cable that goes to the Touch Pad and Control pad module. It should be able to be removed from the control board. Pull out the ribbon cable, and put the ribbon cable back into the connector. Be careful with the cable as they can be broken easily. Once you have everything back together, turn the power back on and test the pad. If it still doesn't work, the control board may be bad.

Whirlpool Gold Accubake System smooth top stove keeps kicking out the 10 amp breaker, sometimes with oven on, sometimes just a burner on, just started doing this a week ago, why????

I have had teh same issue. Not sure if its a design issue or that is just how it works. I have replaced the element, the thermostat and the control board and it still does the repeated cycling.

I have a whirlpool gold accubake # GJP84802, when I was using the broil on 500 F, it tripped the breaker. When I turned it back on, the lower element is not producing heat (top working). Is there a fuse...

Hi,

It sounds like your heater element is burnt out. Get a volt meter. Unplug the stove. take off the back, disconnect one of the wires connected to the element and test it. It should read approximately 11 ohms if good. If a high or no reading, the element needs replacing.
If the element is bad it is easy to change. Just slide out the stove from the wall. Take off the rear cover and just unplug or unscrew the leads from that element and replace. First make sure you unplug the stove it's self from the wall. it does have 220 volt and will hurt you. However if the new element too doesn’t work then you need to check the selector knob (COOK/BROIL) and the thermostat for the oven. To check the thermostat, turn the selector to BROIL and turn the thermostat up until the top element begins to heat. Let it heat up a little then turn the thermostat down until it clicks off. If this works then your thermostat is working.

The problem then must be your selector control. Remove and replace (turn power off at circuit breaker box first!).
Of course, if the thermostat won't turn on the upper element either then it must be the thermostat.

But above all there can be a possibility also that a loose/broken/burned wire is causing the problem. You should check for this when you open up the control panel (after turning off the circuit breaker!).

Whirlpool gold accubake system in loc mode cant get it off the ..

daddysgirl,  You do not indicate the model number or the age of the stove.  Early model self clean stoves used a 'oven lock door handle.'  Later model stoves do not use such a handle but is electronic. I believe this is the one that you own.  You also don't indicate it the door is indeed "LOCKED" or does the console just says that it is locked. If you press START... does the oven actually come on and heat to desired temperature?  If not... I believe that you have a touchpad control problem.  You can unplug your stove from the wall or turn off the stove's 220VAC 50 amp circuit breaker located in your main electrical panel. If possible leave off over nite and then reapply power the next morning.  If you still have the same oven contol problems, then you will have to replace your oven Electronic Control Module (ECM).  It sounds like the "touchpad" portion is defected but unfortunately it usually comes as a part of the ECM.  The oven ECM is very expensive ($150-275. retail) plus labor to install.  Hopes this helps you!  HandyHenry
