Question about Vizio VW42LF 42 in. LCD HDTV
I was watching the tv last night, and it just clicked off. Nothing like bad weather or anything that would have caused a problem. It wouldn't turn back on - from the set, or the remote. I changed plugs ins; still wouldn't turn on. I checked the breakers, and that wasn't the problem. I tested the plug ins, and other things work in them. Any ideas? This tv was bought a couple of years ago, but really hasn't been used very much at all.
The minute it is plugged into the wall, the power supply (5vdc standby power supply) and the processor on the main board will be running 24/7 even when the TV is not turn on.

Does LCD screen backlight come on? If so proceed....
USE:CAUTION WHEN DOING THIS....
Try this if repairing yourself...find power supply, small board with no cover over it...check voltages on output pins/plug/connectors (white plugs) three in a row...
1 Plug has 24Volt supply..1 has 12Volt supply and 1 has 5Volt supply when read to ground (screw that holds board in) if you have these voltages it's a safe bet it's the main control board...I just replaced mine and it fixed a problem like yours.

SOURCE: My 42" Vizio LCD HDTV
It can be the unstable power supply due to bad DC filter caps, bad T-CON boards, main board.
I would inspect the power supply first for caps with domed tops.
Basic troubleshooting guide here:
Failed TV and Monitors: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/
Learn about bad caps: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague
Capacitors kit: http://lcdalternatives.auctivacommerce.com/Default.aspx he can make you a set of caps.
Or www.digikey.com just make sure to use caps with low ESR, 105c, high ripple current, long life rating such as PANASONIC FM or FC series.
Please leave rating if it helps.
