The tri color flashes along with the x light. I've refilled both cartridges, turned off and unplugged the printer, cleaned cartridge heads, nothing works, Tri color light still blinking and printer won't print anything, not even a diagnostic page. Anyone have a magical solution? I need to print a document asap. Thanks

This hapens when refilled cartridges are installed in the printer. To rectify the problem, look for the 'Resume button' normally black with a red circle around an arrow head pointing towards you. With the printer powered on, press and hold this button down for about 10 seconds. The error code will usually clear and the printer will print but the orange lights will still flash.
I removed the black ink cartridge that was REFILLED at a popular retail outfit and replaced it with a remanufactured one I bought on the web. As soon as I closed the lid, the flashing stopped and it has been working GREAT ever since. Many postings had already recommended the changing to a "new cartridge" to remedy this flashing lights and "pen failure."
Turn the printer on. Remove the cartridges. Gently clean the electric contacts on the cartridges and the cartridge carrier. Put the cartridges back in. If the light is still flashing, and your printer won't print, one of your cartridges is faulty. I suggest you go to the refill shop and consult them which cartridges needs a replacement. Does any message appears on your monitor when you try to print something? Usually, a message saying "problem with black/color cartridge" or something similar, that's why I am asking.
Did you replace the ink cartridge with a new one, or did you refill an old one.
Some printers have a memory and can tell which ink cartridge is in them. This prevents them from easily being fooled into printing with refilled cartridges.
Another option is that you changed the ink cartridge without following the specific guidelines for replacement e.g. To replace the ink cartridge, select replace ink cartridge from the main menu, then open the printer panel when the light flashes X number of times.
You might also try unplugging the printer for a couple of minutes the reset it.
No, you do not need 3 cartridges or anything like that. Some cartridges have chips. Yours do not. If the light keeps blinking it means that one of the electrical contacts on the cartridge has blown and now the printer doesn't recognize it. Try printing something, you will get a message "problem with color cartridge" or "color cartridge missing". That means that the printer doesn't recognize it. I suggest you buy a new one. Or, if you have an old one, try putting it in and see if the light still blinks.
If the cartridges are leaking, put the print head on some tissue, so it can extract the excess ink. With a dry cloth, clean your scanner. Look inside the printer. If there is ink in there too, clean it. Use a lot of tissue or toilet paper. Might put some gloves on too.
When you make sure that the cartridges are not leaking anymore, gently wipe the electric contacts on them, and clean the ones on the cartridge carrier.
Turn the printer on.
If the cartridge light keeps flashing:
If a computer message indicates a specific cartridge, that is the problem cartridge.
If there is no computer message, look at the Start Copy
lights - if the Black Start Copy
light is blinking, the cartridge on the right is the problem cartridge.
If the Color Start Copy
light is blinking, the cartridge on the left is the problem cartridge.
If you find out which cartridge is the problem, you will need to replace it. Unfortunately, the ink that has leaked inside, might have damaged your printer.
