Most likely it is.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Next, see the following for how to release the console to gain access to the timer

Then see the following Whirlpool / Kenmore Service Manual for top load, direct drive washers with troubleshooting and testing procedures.

Fridge stops to defrost and wont start again unless i do it manualy by turning the timer with a screw driver.

A mechanical timer defrost cycle is approximately 23 minutes, and it occurs at intervals of between 6 and 12 hours depending on the timer. If it does not come out of the defrost cycle on it's own, your timer can be bad. Be sure the heater actually comes on while in defrost. Also be sure the evaporator (freezer) fan is on when in the cooling cycle. If both of these occur. Replace the timer. It's important that the timer be replaced with an identicle timer.....6 hour for 6 hour, and that the 4 numbers by the electrical contacts be in the same order. In addition, if there is a loose wire from the timer motor with a slotted contact at the end, make sure you follow the instructions as to where it goes.

Wont advance cyles, will work if I manually move the dial to the next cycle

Hi, Your timer dial that you are turning is the timer itself which has gone bad. You will need the full model number and go to your nearest repair house to get the replacement timer. Hope this helps.

My Kitchenaid Superba washing machine won't advance to the next cycle. For instance, it will stay on the wash cycle until you push the dial in and manually move it forward to the next cycle.

ck ing the model # it doesn't work but a washer that the timer will not adv . its just a timer failure . replace timer as it is bad .. you will need a correct mod # of the unit to pur timer .. hope this will help **** ..

STICKS on cycle, wash, etc. If manually moved

Do you mean the timer or control dial sticks. If so then it may be the timer mechanism itself.

Make sure that when you are skipping a turn on the timer that the machine is actually performing that particular task of the cycle. For example if the timer gets stuck before the drain cycle, and you manually skip forward to it, that it actually drains the water out.

If so then it is most likely a worn timer mechanism which sticks.

Machine will not automatically advance thru cycles

The timer has a motor used to advance it through the cycles. If the machine fills with water and the timer stays in one position no matter where you put it......even in the spin cycle, then replace your timer.

HotPoint Top Loader model # WLW1500B

if you hear clicks then I'd have to say it was a mechanical timer. the timer has a small motor on it. a complete timer including its motor will run you about $120 but a replacement timer motor will be about $35.00
