My playstation 3 just stopped playing cds - Sony Video Game Consoles & Games

IT IS NOT SUPPOSED TO PLAY CDS!!!

all will buy this to play games only but that itself its not doing means some problem with it...did u read the manual that it can play cds...if it so u must check this site to solve your problem

the games you are trying to play are not the same region as your console.go through your console manual and you would see the region code it is able to play and cros0chec if it matched the region number on the disc.

Your blu ray drive is shot. The drive motor has to operate much faster to read a game then it does a regular DVD. Eventually your PS3 wont play DVDs but will play CDs.. same reason.. then nothing.
I would consider replacing now. Ebay is a good place actually to buy good blu ray drives for cheap. if your not under warranty I could get you a guide on how to do it, or you could send it to me and I could do it for you. Either way. let me know

will it play blurays ?

if it plays movies and cds but not plurays or games you need a laser its a common failure

laser is geting week, replace system or send in for repair

Changing the laser in this or replacing the drive will shore this up. you might want to try cleaning the unit with a blue ray cleaning kit. Good luck please rate.

you have to clean the lense using the cd-dvd cleaner disc

blu ray drive might be messed up

I'm also having this problem as well, it has to do with the OS and it is corrupted. It seems like the "Game mode" has been corrupted preventing us from playing games on the hard drive or reading games.
