Hi,
did you try uninstalling the printer drivers and re-installing?

Assuming you are running WinXP go here:

If you are using something else like Vista or Windows 7, change the selection at the right hand side of the web page, then select the driver software. Do not select x64 unless you are running a 64 bit operating system. It is highly likely you are running a 32 bit version of XP, Vista or Win7.

Does the printer get recognized on another laptop or computer? If it gets recognized then there is nothing wrong with the printer and cable. In that case, on your computer it's the driver or perhaps you have a dodgy USB port. Can you try another USB port on your computer?

Compressed air may help. Also make sure your cable routing doesn't involve any tight bends in the cable.

If you have a coxial option, I'd advise using it as it won't have the bend or length limitation; and the cables for coaxial are dirt cheap and can be extended and shared between multiple units simultaneously as long as only one is turned on and 'talking'.

You need to isolate the problem. You tried using multiple cables and reinstalled the printer driver several times, but you never mentioned that you tried connecting the printer into another computer. What if the problem is the USB port of the computer and not the printer cable?

Try connecting and installing the problem printer into different computer for testing purpose only. If it work, then the problem is the USB port of the computer. To fix this, try updating the USB driver of your computer.

If same problem occurs using another computer, then you need to contact the manufacturer of your printer. I've heard this problem before and I don't have an update if there's a fix with it.

Here are a few possibilities...
1. Try cleaning the contacts on the print head and where they make contact inside the printer. (use cotton wool and Alchol) if that does not work...
2. Pull out power cable from printer wait 1 MINUTE then insert cable and switch back on again. (some printers reset to factory settings)
3. Remove printer cable from computer... Uninstall Printer driver from computer... Switch off both printer and computer. Wait 1 minute... Reconnect cables and switch on printer and computer... Allow computer to find printer... reinstall driver.

Dell 966 not being recognized by computers


It sounds like you were just using the printer as a copier after the damage to the connected computer. If i'm understanding you correctly, you are saying that you have sense then connected it to other computers and with several different cables. Does it power up? If it does it might be worth repairing. Does the computer acknowledge that new hardware was found? If so it just needs a driver. That printer is around $100 bucks. If it powers up and is just the usb port that is out it can be fixed for less than the cost of a new one.

Printer will not communicate with computers


Whenever I have seen this problem it has usually turned out to be one of the solder points on the USB connection in the printer. Of course it could be a logic board problem as well. Well done for testing your problem so thoroughly (eg trying different cables and machines) but I think it needs a repair agent now unless it is under warranty (or you can solder well). Mind you it's probably cheaper to purchase a new one then to pay to have it repaired.

DVI input on monitor not working


Contacted viewsonic about this issue- they suggested- have both dvi and vga hooked up to same machine. start with poweroff on both. power on monitor, then power on computer. when you see display coming from the vga, power off pc, then disconnect vga cable, turn off power to monitor, disconnect power cord from monitor for 5 + seconds, reconnect power cord, power on monitor, then power on pc.
If this doesn't work to get the dvi working, (as happened to us) we returned our monitor for a replacement, since it was still under warranty.
