Can only get sound to the car speakers from external amp connected to the head unit with rca's and speaker wires from it ran to the speakers. will the head unit speaker wires work if the rca's are unpluged? i want to run the car speakers with the head unit and the subs with the amp and rca's??? why wont this unit do that? Is the internal head unit amp bad?

It is easiest to start with deciding on the amp mounting location, and then running all the wires. Add an extra foot or so to each wire. You may discover in the process that you have to move things around due to unforeseen obstacles. This extra foot will help in that case. Always attach the ground wire to the chassis first and then to the amp first. Once you have the fused power wire from the battery installed; remove the fuse before trying to attach it to the amp. ONLY re-install the fuse once all connections to the amp are made, secure, have been checked twice and you're ready to test it.. This includes speakers. DO NOT for ANY reason have the amp powered up before attaching ALL speaker connections.
To check for yourself, get an Ohmmeter and see if the outers of the amplifiers RCAs are connected to the ground or each other. If so then it cannot take speaker signals directly.
I suspect the 'High Level' the manual speaks of are the 4volt auxilliary audio signals that can be found on some newer head units, not speaker signals.
Speaker level signals from a bridge amp CAN be used on grounded RCA inputs if the signal is first passed through a simple decoupler and attenuator.

The amp needs an RCA input to communicate with the head unit. SOLDER the wires that come out of the head unit for the front speakers to the SNI-15, making sure that the polarity and right/left is correct. Do this for the front and rear speakers if you have a 4 channel amp. Cut the wires if you add new speakers and run the new wire from the speakers or sub box directly to the amp, or skin back the wire insulation and tap on if you use the factory speakers :( then plug your RCA cable from the SNI-15 to the input side of the amp. Don't forget that most new cars have their own amp so you might have to locate it and bypass the speakers wires around it. Don't make a mess in case you have to put everything back to factory for resale. You can avoid all this by installing a new/modern head unit with built in RCA outputs for front, rear, and sub woofer. First of all, you need to isolate what is causing the problem. No output (sound from the sub) could be a defect in the 1) Wiring, 2) Head unit, 3) Speaker(s), or 4) The amp itself.
Start to systematically eliminate the possible causes. Connect your subs to a known good system. If they work, it's got to be something else. Check the RCA cables from your head unit to the amp. Check the speaker wiring. Check the amp on-board fuses.
Make sure that you have output from the head unit. With multiple RCA jacks, it's possible to plug your cables into an input rather than an output (in the dark, behind the dash). If you have more than 1 set of preamp outs, try another set.
Sounds like there is a problem with the amp. Try switching the inputs around for that output on the amp. If that does not help, Yes I would have to say that there is a problem with the amp output circuit.
This one Wire should be for the +. Try connecting the + to the Head Unit and - to a Common Ground. At the Worst, You will Blow the Amp Fuse if not Correct. The Lead from the Head Unit is Only an Off and On from the Ignition. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!
Light is on so suggests power, earth and remote turn on cable all ok. Now you just need to test the RCA signal and the AMP output. I take it you have used low level RCA as the input from the head unit? (two cables usually red n white although can somtimes be other colours) best way is with substitute amp n speakers etc although can be done with osciliscope or headphones. Once it is established the RCA signal is fine then you can check the speakers from the amp. disconnect them at the amp and put each of the two wires briefly to a battery, any battery will do e.g. 9v PP9 or 1.5v AA etc you should hear a pop from each speaker as you do it. that proves the speakers and wiring to them.
If there was no signal from the RCA the cables may be bad - requires testing from head unit to amp
failing that the RCA output may be reduced or turned off via a menu in the head unit
Or the RCA output from the unit may be knackered.
It's possible (probable) that the head unit has a blown internal amplifier IC. Measure the DC voltage on each of the 8 speaker wires on the head unit. Place the black lead on the chassis of the head unit. Probe each wire with the red lead. All should read approximately 1/2 of the voltage on the yellow wire. If you get some that are significantly higher or lower, disconnect all speaker wires from the harness and measure again. If the voltage is still not ~1/2 of the voltage on the yellow wire, the IC is almost certainly defective.
For the external amp, you need to check the shield ground for the head unit. The following page shows you how.
blue and white wire on a pioneer is usually the power antenna wire, most people use it as the lead for power to turn on the amp that is installed, the amp should be hooked up to the RCA jacks on the back of the player to the input RCA jacks on the amp. then the outputs vary, some amps are bridgable which means that you can hook up one speaker to both output speakers this will almost double the watts to the speakers. you must know which side would be positive and which side negative to set it up like this. also important is it a two or four channel amp. this all matters. if you can provide more info I can assure you the best hookup possible for premium sound.
