Question about ASUS Eee 4G Notebook

1 Answer

I have an EE PC with some broken keys, damaged in transit one time. One of the damaged keys is needed for the password. I've tried an external USB keyboard and using Ascii charachters but they don't seem to work at the login screen. The EEE PC doesn't have a CD Drive or a hard disk so I can't reload windows on it, or put the disk into my PC and try from there. I'm more anxious to get access to the device that fixing the keyboard, I just want to blank the password requirement. Anyone have any ideas?

Your best bet is to replace the keyboard. They are cheap (under $20.00) and easy to replace. All other options involve making a bootable flash drive (more complicated and you still have a broken keyboard)

Remove anything that's plugged into it (USB keys, USB mouse etc.)

Try power up. If fails, continue.

Remove power supply, and battery. Hold power button for 1minute. Insert battery and power supply.

Try power up. If fails, continue.

Hook up to external monitor/tv. Power on. Can you see anything on the TV?

Remove the RAM chips. Try power up. Does it beep?

If NO then your motherboard is broken (specifically issue with CMOS)
If yes, could be graphics related.

Bring it to a PC shop for full diagnosis.

I have try the windwos password key but it will not let me use my usb flash...

Last week when my friend bought a Windows XP installed netbook, he created a complex Windows login password to bolster the privacy of his netbook. Unfortunately, he couldn't remember the spelling of his own password the next day and was unable to use his netbook. I suggested Windows Password Key 8.0 to reset the password and start using his netbook again. Let’s find out more about Windows Password Key 8.0.
Windows Password Key 8.0 is a useful application, which can be used to reset the Windows login password on your netbook with the help of USB flash drive. Windows Password Key 8.0 is compatible with all versions of Windows.

However, your netbook must have minimum system requirements to enable Windows Password Key 8.0 to reset your Windows login password. First, your Windows must be installed in a FAT-16, FAT-32 or NTFS partition and you must also have bootable USB flash drive to reset the password.
fe1784f.gif
You'll need to install Windows Password Key 8.0 on any other Windows PC, which is accesible to you. Once the installation is complete, Windows Password Key 8.0 will launch on the screen.
In the Windows Password Key 8.0 window, you'll need to select the existing Windows Password Key 8.0 image, which is ideally located as a default option under ‘Choose the existing windows password key 8.0’.

Select the option ‘USB Flash Drive’ and insert your USB flash drive in the USB port. After you insert the USB flash drive, select it from the drop down list and click the ‘Burn’ button.

When the ‘burning’ process starts, Windows Password Key 8.0 extracts the ISO image and copies the necessary Windows files to your USB flash drive.

Now you can insert your newly created USB flash drive into your netbook port, and then reboot your operating system. Be sure to change your netbook set up to make it boot from your USB flash drive.

When your operating system boots from your USB flash drive, the Windows Password Key 8.0 will initialize on your netbook screen. You need to select ‘Windows installation to be processed’ and then select the user, whose password you need to reset by typing the number associated with it, followed by the ‘ENTER’ key.

In the next screen, type ‘Y’ followed by ‘ENTER’ to reset a new password.
After you reset a new password, remove the Windows Password Key 8.0 bootable USB flash drive and restart your netbook to log in using your new password.
It is always a good practice to set up a simple password for our windows login. Although we have utility applications like Windows Password Key 8.0 for our rescue, it becomes a tedious task to reset password, especially when you are travelling with important documents on your netbook.

I've an LG notebook(Model#LGR58).One of the keys( -_ ) of the keyboad is not working. What is the solution?

Possible that you have a damaged key pad or switch and in the first place if you are able to remove the keyboard and remove the pads to inspect , it will be useful to the confirmation of the fault.
If there is dirt , then clean and reset. If not check for track failure or damaged links, damaged connectors.
If however it seems that the keyboard has to be replaced then use an external wireless keyboard also can be tried-- or even a external usb type.

I password my laptop (samsung R510) and one of the key I used is not working and I got an external USB keyboard by the keyborad is not working with, what will I do to used the external keyboard

your USB keyboard may not work because your laptop has not got to the point of initiating USB at the point of booting to password.
You could try using ascii codes to eneter the key
at the point where you need to enter the key that doesnt work press your numlock button this will turn some of your letters into numbers...they should be written on the keys in a different colur...the laptop Im looking at at the moment has 4 on U, 5 on I 6 on O, 1 on J etc...
hopefully these are not the broken key..
if you look here you will see the chart that says A=65 B=66 etc in order
http://www.asciitable.com/

find the letter you need eg v=118 in lower case
type in your password till you get to the v (if thats the broken letter)
press and hold [ALT] button with num lock on and on your newley formed number pad type in the number thet represent the letter in this case 118 when you release the [ALT] key it will insert that letter.
however this only works with an extended keypad (like a full size keyboard) where the numbers are seperate not your top row numbers which is why you need your numlock on.

if it does then work maybe you could go into your bios and turn USB legacy support on...which may then help your full size keyboard to work too.

Damage hard drive

If you've damaged your laptop's hard drive, there isn't too much you can do about the issue depending on the amount of damage. If it is only crashing, but still operable, you may just have enough time to save some of your information with an external hard drive or other form of data storage. Retrieve your preferred data storage device (an external hard drive would be the best choice in this situation) and try to save as much data from the broken hard drive by copying your data over to a backup folder on your external hard drive. You can find your external hard drive under "My Computer" once it has been plugged in. After you've saved your data, I would suggest buying a new hard drive for your laptop and replacing it carefully. Most laptops can be opened up from the bottom (DON'T undo any screws) and have their hard drives removed, so that you may be able to place in a new one. Be sure that you buy a compatible laptop hard drive, and not a larger hard drive meant for desktop computers.

Keyboard can be replaced. They are generally under $20.00 and normally pretty easy to replace. You could also try an external usb keyboard, not a long term solution but may get you access until you can replace the keyboard.

How to install windows xp to my ee pc 4g by using an usb?

Obviously you need a cd/dvd drive.
Put the disc into the drive and power up the laptop, pressing on f2 or f8 or f12 depending on the model, select boot device options, pick the drive letter for the cd/dvd drive (assuming that the internal HDD is drive c, then the external could be d,e,f,g etc) and the pc will load from the disc. You may even have it set to boot from usb already. Then just follow the onscreen prompts until it's finnished.
