DVD R not working properly

My combo drive sometimes reads DVD, but often it cannot even detect the DVD. But CDR/W is working properly, only problem is with DVD R.

I have an ASUS 5232 combo drive. It reads many CDs and DVDs fine, but several program CDs it does not even recognize as being in the drive.

Any thoughts?
