Here is a copy of the users manual for these pool filters. It has a diagram for setup that should help you know where to connect the hose.

I don't know how much time you are giving it, but sometimes when I start my pump, it'll take 20 minutes or so for it to start a full stream of water. Also, make sure the valves are turned to the unlock position on the incoming and outgoing hoses.

Where to connect valves

Hook a temp hose up to it, put it in water and see which way it flows. The intake is then connected to the bottom output from the pool.

I don't know how to vacuume me pool. I have a hayward sand filter

all you need is a pole, a vacuum hose, and a vacuum head. connect the hose to the vacuum head and the head to the pole. Submerge the vacuum head and the pole into the pool and push the vacuum hose slowly straight down so that it fills with water. Once the entire vacuum hose is filled with water, plug it into the skimmer suction or wall port. You may have to adjust the valves at the pump to increase suction to wherever you have to vacuum hose plugged in to.

Hope this helps

How to open pool, fill sand filter with water?

I happen to have a copy of the users manual for this pool filter. These are the instructions for operating your filter.

1. Be sure correct amount of filter sand media is in tank and
that all connections have been made and are secure.
2. Depress Vari-Flo control valve handle and rotate to
BACKWASH* position. (To prevent damage to control valve
seal, always depress handle before turning.)
3. Prime and start pump according to pump instructions (be
sure all suction and return lines are open), allowing the filter
tank to fill with water.
WARNING: ALL SUCTION AND
DISCHARGE VALVES MUST BE OPEN WHEN
STARTING THE SYSTEM. FAILURE TO DO
SO COULD CAUSE SEVERE PERSONAL
INJURY.
Once water flow is steady out the waste line, run the pump for
at least 2 minutes. The initial back-washing of the filter is
recommended to remove any impurities or fine sand particles
in the sand media.
4. Turn pump off and set valve to RINSE position. Start pump
and operate until water in sight glass is clear—about 1/2 to 1
minute. Turn pump off, set valve to FILTER position and
restart pump. Your filter is now operating in the normal filter
mode, filtering particles from the pool water.
5. Adjust pool suction and return valves to achieve desired
flow. Check system and filter for water leaks and tighten
connections, bolts, nuts, as required.
6. Note the initial pressure gauge reading when the filter is
clean. (It will vary from pool to pool depending upon the
pump and general piping system). As the filter removes dirt
and impurities from the pool water, the accumulation in the
filter will cause the pressure to rise and flow to diminish.
When the pressure gauge reading is 8-10 PSI (0.55-0.69
BAR) higher than the initial "clean" pressure you noted, it is
time to backwash (clean) the filter (see BACKWASH under
Filter Control Valve Functions.)

No water coming out when I backwash. I cleaned

water level must be about the discharge (eyeball) in the pool to back wash. Check the hose connections to make sure that hoses off the the filer head are going to the right place Look for the words "Pump" , "pool" and "waste" molded into the valve. I've seen it a number of times where "Pump" and "pool" were connected the wrong way.

Sand shoots out of my return flow when I turn on the filter. Why?

It could be any of the following.
1. If you recently added sand into the filter Sand might have been poured in to the standpipe when being added to the tank.
2. A broken or worn out lateral . (One of the slotted tubes) on the bottom of the tank that water passes through on it way back to the pool. A lateral acts as a strainer keeping the sand in, lets the water out.
3.. A cracked standpipe the tube that sits in the tank, connects into the filter head
4. Filter head O-ring maybe dislodged. It's located where stand pipe connects, to the filter head inside the head.
5.. The hoses on the filter maybe hooked up backwards. The hose going from filter to pump may be connected from filter to pool.
